RTK Get Together in Kansai

#1
So I read how some of us RTK alcolytes met in Kamakura.

I would like to try to arrange a meeting for those of us in the Kansai area or anyone willing to travel. I personally live in Kobe which is about 30 minutes away from Osaka.

So if anyone around here wants to meet up, let's give it a try.

When did you have in mind?
I am interested in a get together and I'll be in Japan Kansai area in May.
I don't really know how much free time I'll have though so I probably couldn't make it anyway..

With any luck I'll be in the area any time after march, and would probably be interested.

Anytime really works for me.

I was thinking sometime in late April/early May would be good because it's not too hot or cold and the cherry blossoms are out.

Good for a trip to Osaka or Himeji Castle.

There is really nothing to see at Osaka castle. My apartment is literally right next to it.

Just down the street in 森之宮一丁目. I can see the castle out my window.

I went to Himejijou a few months ago and it's much more interesting, being an actual castle instead of a lump of concrete with an elevator on the side of it and an inside that looks like a hotel lobby.

I've actually never been to Osaka Castle so thanks for the heads up. But I've been to Himeji 4 or 5 times now. Great place.

Kaiyuukan!
And lots of fun museums!
Has anyone been to that place where they have this edo period city block built inside the museum? What's it's name? I liked that place!
And that sphere thing in the sea where you go through an underwater tunnel!
We just walked towards it trying to find the entrance only to finally find ourselves cut off from it by a hundred meters of water.. tough! ^^;

Oh.. Why can't I remember the names of those places..

There are two different "Edo cities". The museum one is 大阪くらし今昔館, near Temma, the other is TOEI 映画村 (actually in Kyoto). 映画村 is probably more interesting for a bunch of foreigners to goto, but if you're going to Kyoto there are way better things to see than a fake village.

I forget the name of the underwater thing, I ended up not going last time I was planning to. The 海遊館 was interesting but my camera's inability to take a decent picture of anything in the dark made me leave frustrated Tongue

So let's get together. I say do Osaka and Himeji sometime in April before Golden Week unless you like crowded trains and places everywhere you go.

Jarvik, maybe you can be the Osaka guide? And Himeji is just Himeji, you see the castle, look at the little shops and go.

Although Himeji has a great Persian place where I ate some good skewered meat.

Who else wants to join?

My availability is really quite limited and unpredictable. Although I usually spend about half of the year in Osaka, I travel a LOT (I rode an airplane about 15 times last year!). Currently I'm in the prairies in Canada (just north of Montana) for about 3 months. After this I'll be in British Columbia for a couple months and then probably Tokyo for an indeterminate amount of time.

Really I'd be a better tour guide for Kyoto anyways. I've guided Japanese people on walking tours through the city (mostly the eastern half) a few times. When you live in a city too long you forget what is interesting to show other people. I've been to Kyoto probably 15-20 times but never lived there so it stays fresh in my mind.
