I was wondering if anyone would be interested in putting together a prject where we find images for some of the tree, flower, and fish RTK keywords, and make an anki deck. I mistake the tree keywords so often cause I real have no idea what they look like, and I quickly forget if I look it up online.

That might actually be a good idea. Especially in the last couple chapters -- I've encountered a handful of random plants.

Using pictures would remove the English part of the card as well, perhaps doing a similar thing to the Japanese keywords, allowing greater Japanese immersion while reviewing.

That'd be kinda cool. At any rate I could learn some different types of plants/fish. I think it might be good to include the kun-yomi too, assuming each kanji is a single word(鯨 くじら, 杉 すぎetc)

what i do is i place the base in the midle and draw a circle around it then color it red off that I write other kanji that have that base i color them blue then from that kanji i write the on and kun yomi for each a funa and great way to learn and remember kanji

So we need a list of that birds, plants, trees, flowers, insects or whatever and then give people one to find a picture for. Other considerations are what size to make the picture, uniform would be best, make it square or something, probably everyone should use jpg format, maybe each person could submit two pictures so people could choose the one they like better, or the pic they 'feel' more.
Here's a list of plants, animals, flowers, etc.
176 carp
198 Japanese Judas tree
199 Oak
203 apricot
204 Paulownia
236 Peach tree
242 reed
460 plum
472 briar
514 horse chestnut
518 lightning bug
523 silkworm
534 tortoise
698 mulberry
785 pine tree
907 pear tree
910 rice plant
927 chrysanthemum
937 bamboo
940 bamboo grass
1210 wisteria
1262 boar
1367 cotton
1421 willow
1498 catalpa
1569 camellia
1609 chestnut
1614 camphor tree
1728 mosquito
1838 bullrush
1932 cherry tree
1943 crane
1944 crow
2035 seaweed
2038 cinnabar
And I think we needn't stop there if it's useful, here are some that I think don't immediately give a strong visual image. I mean I know what a tatami mat is now I'm living in Japan, but prior to that I wouldn't be so certain.
1784 tatami mat
1963 hawser
939 bamboo hat
2033 barracks
1177 big dipper
411 brocade
158 buddhist temple
272 copper
1630 godown
1225 halberd

1671 saber/ sabre
1428 sake
1033 shinto shrine
603 shish kebab
1584 spindle
155 squared jewel
1065 stratum
763 sulfur/ sulphur
1360 sutra
1486 two mat area
221 vermillion
1355 crimson
943 writing brush
1930 zen
So add some that you have trouble with, provided you think there can be a picture that would clarify it. Of course most words are ephemeral concepts at best.
Words I don't think we should find pictures for: diarrhoea, womb, et. al.

I think simple is best. just english key word with pic, then answer is kanji. People can modify it from there if they want to add japanese, readings etc.
I`m thinking just one step up from RTK would be the most usefull to most people

I'll start on these...
176 carp

How's that?
Are we including RTK3?

I just don't have RTK 3 so I couldn't make a list. Are we going with Yukamina's size? It's about 280 x 220, is that a standard photobucket size? Try for at least two differentish pictures of each one.

I even drew out a picture myself for the juvenile kanjis. There is a picture for arrival that was stuck in my head from the moment I saw it. Check the study room and you'll find it.
Keep it up, this stuff makes R'ing the K lots easier.

Im actually making a program that uses pictures to memorise kanji it will work on your mp3 player so if you intersted you can check out my site

I also wrote some pictures at times... not to actually use, but just to make the visual image in my mind even more clear.
