Your name in Japanese Game

#1
All you have to do is look up the meaning of your name and translate Big Grin.

Even better, post your name in Kanji and let's see if we can work the steps backwards and find out your real name.

First/middle names only Wink.

I'll start

The kanji for my first name only appears in compounds so

新増-王

Real Japanese names right? Not just whatever kanji suits the meaning.

I can't find one that is exactly right, but here are some possibilities:

明美
光子

I didn't want to look up the meaning. I just did it by phonetics:

阿令久寿
アレイクス

Lol. Perhaps I shouldn't have removed the part about not taking the shortcut Wink.

部

寿

The "ri" comes from the name of the person who chose it for me Smile

I looked into translating my name into Japanese once, but other than a few sites that do it 'automatically', I didn't find much info. I'd like to have more input into it than just letting a computer pick.

Can anyone give me so direction on how to go about this? If I seem confused, it's because I haven't even got an idea where to start.

I doubt my name has a meaning, but I have made it using phonetics.

刀美亜守
トビアス

EDIT: Seems the name does have a meaning, so let's do something with that... How about 良帝 (ryoutei) or 帝良 (teiryou)? While those kanji aren't used, both pronounciations work as japanese names, though they aren't common.

涙 may be a bit on the easy side, so... 鳩.

Nope, it's Lanie Smile I looked up "Ellen" and it has the exact same meaning, though.

What I did was look up my name on this site ->http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/ to find the meaning. This site actually has my name on it, unlike other name sites.
Then I looked up the meaning here-> http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/jap.php and specify the language to Japanese.

亜風厘 茶亜留主 アップリン チャアルス

It's in Ateji, but the last name comes close to the meaning (son of Abel, puff of wind). My first name means "manly, strong" which you can't get in Ateji (although Tea, Dragon, Lord were my first Ateji choices).

name meaning?

I'm reminded of the line from Pulp Fiction - "I'm American, honey, our names don't mean shizzle"

also, my name isn't well suited for kanjification

ジョン since I don't think there are any kanji with a reading ン or ジョン

but maybe じおん can get close enough for our purposes:

字音 or 痔温 (...eww)

or maybe ジヨン sounds better...in which case: 治四

Not my name but one name that works well as kanji: 魔悪

Now, my name means "from the god Mars" or "dedicated to the god Mars". How do I translate that to kanji?
Pronunciation-wise I chose 丸弧 some time ago.

Mars is the god of war, so maybe using 武 somewhere? (Since Mars is a 軍神・武神) Or 軍 and 戦, although they don't seem much like proper names.

By meaning, and trying to look vaguely like a name:
狐島 神敦 (こじま かなのり)

Mine was designed by a Japanese friend. 三夢得. It was chosen so the reading would match my real name, and the meaning is pretty badass too. Smile

Kind of...oversimple? But then so is my name in English...
Is this character ever in first names? I`ve only ever seen it in last names. But again, in English my name is also about 10x more common in last names than first...so maybe it`s a pretty good pick. : P

Considering the reading it could be 餡名, though it doesn't make any sense (I could have used アナ instead of アンナ but I don't like the whole "hole" imagery Tongue) or 恵み, considering the meaning.

As some people don't seem to know:

jisho.org has a name dictionary for japanese names. For example, I searched for Anna for kurage and got tons of hits, so finding a real japanese name for Anna isn't a problem. Here are some examples:

阿南
愛那
安菜
安和

A friend of mine wrote my name as 麻紅師 「マークス」 Marcus before. There's gotta be a better option.

Guess your name is Marc(us) as well?

Yeah, it's Marco. I don't think it involves the planet Mars, but it could be an option, since the god Mars doesn't exist in Japanese. Smile

I'm pretty sure Japanese people don't use japanese particles in their names Wink

Besides, it sounds kind of odd to call someone a "Martian" just because their name is based on the God of Mars who later gave his name to a planet Wink

Still, 火星人 would be a cool name Big Grin

Thanks, but either I still didn't understand, or nothing applied.

For instance, My first name is William but many call me Cole, my middle name. After looking up both of those, I couldn't find any Japanese names to have anything close to the same meanings (Will, desire, dark, etc.)

Also, I tried the Jisho trick but couldn't find anything that fit with William (uiriamu), Will (uiru), or Cole (koru).

I'm at an impass again, now.
