Japanese input messed up on my PC, please help o_o;

#1
I hadn't typed in Japanese for a week at least.. so just the other day I was surprised to see that typing in Japanese has somehow messed up big time...

When I type 'ka' this is what I get あ
When I type, 'de' this is what I get え

Densha Otoko =  え    あお お お

Only the vowel part shows up, while the other parts are a blank.
It's the same for katana...

 katakana = ア ア ア ア

Does anyone know what happened? I don't think I changed any options, but perhaps installing some random program changed some parameters somewhere..

Is anyone familiar with this? Could someone tell me how I might go about correcting it?

assuming this is windows, just uninstall japanese input, reboot, and reinstall it. i've never had the exact same problem as you are describing, but other weird IME issues were solved this way.

if you are on a mac, it might be a bit more difficult as the IME and language files are built right into the OS by default. you might be able to reinstall kotoeri from the install disc, however a quick "archive and install" might be easier.

OR, if you are backing up your computer (you ARE, aren't you?) just restore from a backup from the last time it was working.

Woh, IME properties are really messed up.. Blank buttons and strange characters are all over the place. How can I uninstall and reinstall this?

Can't you reinstall all windows? It works most of the times.

I suppose I'll start with a reset and see if that helps..

There's no problem in displaying Japanese characters.. they're all over this site and others. I can paste them into notebook and any other area too. But when inputting Japanese characters, somethings not right.

Hmmmmmmm..

I found this:
Jared Wrote:This is for all you XP users who don't seem to be able to type anything but vowels using the Japanese language in XP. I had this same problem and just fixed it, so you may find this helpful.

The cause of the problem is most likely that you (like me) didn't realize XP had built in Japanese language support and so went and downloaded or installed a previous version of IME. This apparently screws up the built-in XP support big-time (I was having lots of buggy stuff happen besides the vowel problem... distorted icon graphics, random toolbar items being selected and unselected, etc.).

The solution for me was to first uninstall the downloaded version of IME (use the installer program that you downloaded, it's got repair and uninstall options as well).

Next I went back and removed all non-English language support from Windows XP. Basically, go to the Regional and Language Options page and uncheck the box for "Install files for East Asian languages." This will uninstall the (corrupted, I believe) Japanese files. To be on the safe side I pretty much set everything in the various tabs here to what they were when XP was first installed, but just uninstalling East Asian languages is probably sufficient.

You'll have to reboot for the settings to take effect. Now you can start over with the directions on this site and re-enable native Windows XP Japanese language support. Everything works great for me now and hopefully it will work for you too!

Hope that helps.

Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to discuss illegal things on someone else's forum, Hashiriya. It's rather rude.
