internet site that provide native japanese phrase

#1
Hi, minna

I need your help to find certain site.
Here is some background story. Recently, my girlfriend often sends me japanese sentence that are highly relevant to what she is thinking at the time. She knows I can understand Japanese. As far as I know, so doesn't know even tiny bit about Japanese, but the sentences she sent are all native sounded ones. She said that she got them from some site on the net, but the problem is she won't tell me the address. She even sent me something like this :これまでで最も退屈な休日になるんだろうな. which sound very native to me, and that was exactly what she wanted to tell me at the time. From the timing, it's unlikely that she had some time asking other people who knowledgeable in Japanese to translate it for her, before she sent it to me. She said that the site not only provides Japanese sentences but also other languages'. From all the sentence she sent me, I conclude that the site not only provides some common Japanese sentences, but it could even translate a full sentence, which sounds impossible to me. I wonder if such cool site actually exist. Do you guys happen to know what this site is? Thanks before

She probably has some Japanese person on some chat program. Safe to say, there's no way to machine translate Japanese to an even decent level, at least not between Japanese and English, such a site is thus impossible.

Yeah it's probably using a translator, because this isn't natural speech at all:
私はあなたとのセックスが欲しい

It's also exactly what google translate puts out.

-edit-
hahaha, this doesn't even make sense:
私ドントだけで死ぬことを望む (I don't want to die alone)

Question about this:

Is 地獄に落ちる a natural Japanese idiom?

That is more "to go to hell" rather than "go to hell". It needs the imperative conjugation.

True, but disregarding that, a literal translation would be 地獄に行け or maybe 地獄へ行け。 Is using 落ちろ rather than 行け natural Japanese usage?

Awesome, that merits being on a t-shirt.

It translates like shit when it comes to more complex sentences.. =P
I tried it "English <--> Finnish" as well as "English --> Japanese". =P

Seeing as 90% of the JP sentences don't even make sense let alone approach natural Japanese, I'd say it translates like shit regardless of source sentence complexity.

Hahaha! I did a little experiment. I started with the sentence "I fear I'm going to puke" and then translated it to Italian, then Japanese, then english again. I did it a few times, and the sentence kept getting crazier. When I stopped it had become "Back to the topic Lim"...

I sometimes use the Excite site for a quick J-E translation.

I particularly liked its translation of this sentence from the Tanuki database:
年上の人の注意は、すなおに聞こう

Ah, the internet translator version of the "telephone" game.

「私はすべての上に唇を感じてほしい」

I especially like the "all over" ---> 「すべての上」 part.

Now you can just amuse yourself for hours with the telephone game without the need of other people's participation! ^^

Like I said, machine translation of Japanese is impossible. Which is good because that makes sure what we're doing here on this site isn't in vain Wink

I recommend people who are learning korean to try machine translation between japanese and korean though. It's fully comprehensible, most of the time.

Ahah, I like that.

私はあなたに恋を作りたい
私はあなたが私の美しい王子チャーミングな愛 (the last part sounds like a song title)
Youreハンサム (that's what you get when you don't even write the English properly)
ジェシカと思うあなたはとても美しいアイダホのような方が良いことを知る
ジェシカはsluty雌犬です (and its sequel, ジェシカはsluty娼婦です)

Strange how it can come up with a few that actually make sense (and aren't just single words). I assume these were submitted by someone other than Babelfish.

あなたがいなくて寂しいです
