To All Japanese Blog Writers

Tae Kim, of Tae Kim's Japanese Guide to Japanese Grammar, is hosting the Japan Matsuri blog carnival on the topic of Japanese Language, and apparently only a couple people have submitted anything. :/

Guys, Tae Kim is one of the big players in the Japan self-study community, he's provided sooo much, with his inimitable Guide which I'm sure many of you have used. Me, I cut my teeth on it. So if you have a blog, submit a post related to Japanese Language. You can submit a brand new post you write today, or one you wrote ten years ago (if blogs existed then). Great way to give Tae Kim a little love for all he's done for us... As well as get some extra traffic to your blog.

For details see http://www.guidetojapanese.org/blog/2008...ri-update/ and http://www.guidetojapanese.org/blog/2008...g-matsuri/

Well, I went ahead and submitted a post on my blog about RTK - http://www.avparker.com/2008/09/18/remem...the-kanji/.

I'd written it a while ago, and had been planning to write a follow-up about RevTK before I posted it, so I could post them together, since I think this site was crucial to my success in finishing RTK1. I guess I'll need to get my act together and write that follow-up sooner than I thought!

I've been planning to start blogging in Japanese for quite some time, but I've never really dismounted my donkey on that one. Sure, I did have the occasional Japanese word in it when I wrote about my stay there, but that's it so far.

Sorry to go off topic, but does anyone know what nationality Tae Kim is? Just out of curiousity, because I always thought he was Japanese but apparently he's not.

I think he's Korean. Kim is a very common Korean name.

Is submitting an ancient post really OK? I wrote something about reading Japanese back in March which kind of feels wasted on the usual readers of my blog (which is about 75% personal stuff for my friends, most of whom don't know Japanese). It'd be nice if people who might find it interesting/useful might read it, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for this...

That's a great post pm215! Unfortunately the Japan Matsuri (i.e. submitting to Tae Kim) is already closed, so you won't be able to submit it.

I've started reading real Japanese books since finishing RTK1, and have come to a lot of the same conclusions. I started with children's book from the local library (I'm lucky enough to be in Tokyo now), and quickly found that a lot of them don't contain much Kanji (this actually makes it harder to understand!). I've been slowly working my way up the complexity, now I'm reading 少年 level short-stories and detective stories.

I've also been searching for some manga to start with, so your recommendation will help a lot. If you have any other recommendations that would be great.
I had settled on trying to read ひぐらし の なく 頃 に, but I'm having trouble finding the first episode in manga. This one has two anime series as well, which I think will be useful.

I just read this from Tae Kim's Blog:

Quote:However, I will post all your submissions for September?s Blog Matsuri something near the end of this week. There?s still time to write and submit something to me! Just email me at taekim.japanese AT gmail.com
So you still have time! =)

I'm glad to see that... I thought it was a great post. Should get you some traffic, if not fame and/or fortune.
