Aye! The recommended time on them is 75 days! Ouch!

Edit: Of the new ones, I mean.
but i'm sure that estimate is for people with "lives" i'm sure you could knock one out a month... i bet cracky could do it in a week, that guy is insane with his iKnow studies...

Guess it depends:

From my experience it takes 25 minutes for initial review of 10 words (writing down word, pronunciation and the sentence, then doing the quizzes). Then another 45 minutes for the next 3 reviews of those 10 words (to get that 100%) which is just writing down the word and doing the iKnow quizzes.

So that's roughly 1 hour per 10 new words. As I try 2 hours a day, that's 20 words a day which means 500 words can be done in about 25 days, followed by about 14 more days reviewing. In that two hours I may have reviewed 50 older words (hour's time) and learned 20 new words (another hour's time).

That whole "Do 30 Items" thing is a holdover when there was no Long Term Study Mode. So to is the number of days to complete a course. So I review until either 2 hours have passed (the last 3 days, I've done only reviews), or I run out of review items and study 20 new words. This has definitely balanced out the due items. So, if I can keep this pace up, 6000 items can take about a year and be 600 to 700 hours of study time.

Iknow is great, but how do people learn sentences from it? What I want to to is learn the word using Iknow, and after I get it to 100%, put it into my SRS. But what's the best way to do this? Right now I don't have any words up to 100%, but I will soon. Does it give you a list of sentences afterwards, or would I need to the painful method of getting all of the words in a lesson completed, then making a new account to see them in order and put them into my SRS? Unless of course someone already has this on a spreadsheet.

(Yes, I know my sentence structure is terrible. so tired)

Check a few pages back. There should be a path to getting all the sentences. What you can do, once you add them to you deck, is simply put a delay on the ones you aren't studying. Or you can just the sentences you want from the spread sheets and just add those.

Many options await you.

Just the whole sentences? Oh, sorry, wrong site...

Ok, I have the sentences, but I have a couple questions...

Is there a way to imporove the audio...

and...

A way to set the word to be learned both ways. Right now it only asks me to read the japanese sentence, and I want to see the english sentence and translate it to japanese.

OK, it looks like they're starting to show how they'll keep the content free.

Granted, this is the English to Japanese part of iKnow, but it does illustrate what they talked about in the Tokyo2.0 video. Be nice if they did this for popular Japanese videos in the US (yeah, even *shudder* Naruto).

PS: Now, the "viral video" link and some language for the sentence samples are NWFS. The torture of Kung Fu Panda by Iron Man is not the prettiest sight, but I did laugh.

I just now had a moment to check out iKnow. It's pretty cool. It is hard for me to understand these people talking at native speed (as opposed to the slowed-down speech of some teaching tools), but that's why I need this practice!

I read a few more posts in this forum, here, and found out that once you create an account, there are all sorts of extra features, including podcasts of the lesson you just finished!

I just started this a few weeks ago, and I completely agree. I think the listening is the greatest benefit of this program and easily surpasses the slow and unreliable TTS method in Anki.

I can't get the audio to work for me at all (so I can't use the dictation either).
I use Firefox 3.0.4 and Java is activated. (I tried it with Internet Explorer but there it doesn't work either).
Do I need to install anything?

Does the program load when you go to study? Because if it does, you might just need to restart you computer. If it doesn't, you might need to install the latest version of flash.

Beyond that, I say the sites support would get you the answer sooner.

Actually everything worked apart from the audio. I just reinstalled flashplayer and now it works. Thanks Smile

I think some of the audio for the vocab in Core 2000 Step 1 and Step 2 were replaced by some robotic voice... <_< Some of the Kanji are screwed up in my list as well... Is it just happening to me or is anyone else facing the same problem here ?

This has been reported and acknowledged in the support section - however it's a holiday weekend in Japan this weekend and I expect that it may take another few days before the site admins can locate and fully resolve the problem.

The computer voices are annoying, but the screwed up kanji really damages your scheduling when going from kanji>kana. that's the biggest issue for me.

Yeah, it was posted about on the blog, in the comments of the last couple posts. They've acknowledged it and asked for our patience. After they fix it, they want us to report any other issues we find as well.

Ah ok.. phew... I suppose it will be fixed soon. 悲しい was replaced by 愛しい and I was like.. what the hell ?!

I need another list like I need another hole in my head at the moment, but I think that one will be particularly useful. Thanks!

Wow, this site is really useful. It's definately reinforcing the Kanji I've learned from RtK and the new ones I 'learn' (I doubt I could write them) will be easier to Heisig once I get to them as I will already know the meaning. RtK, IKnow and a grammar textbook FTW

iKnow is a good complement because you don't need to 'keep it up' like an srs. If you miss a week or month there is no repercussion. When I'm bored I go and use it, but I wouldn't want to use it for my main srs because I'd rather 'own' my deck. I want it usable in ten years, and without an internet connection. The audio is great.

Alright just a quick question for those of you who use the Dictation function on iKnow.
I can't figure out how to type the ィ in パーティー there! It's different from the normal IME input that's why it is so confusing and I haven't figured it out yet (which makes me always fail the sentence that has that word in it x__X).
Help please :|

If you type 'x' before another character, then the character you type after the 'x' will be reduced in size. Hope this helps!

I haven't tried the 'x' thing on iKnow, but I would type 'ti' and it should take it. (Rather than 'te i'.)

You can type 'thi' for 'ティ' or 'xi' for 'ィ'.

If you type in "ti" you only get "chi" (ち) then Wink
