Hi, I'm currently thinking about how to proceed after finishing Tae Kim's Essential Grammar (I've already done the Basic Grammar), since I haven't studied vocabulary at all it's about time I get going. Originally I had planned to do KO2001 after I know enough about grammar to understand the sentences (which apparently isn't necessary for the iKnow sentences, or do they get more demanding later on...?), but it would be great to have some further input on the alternatives. So, here are the things I'm not sure about:
How much does the iKnow vocabulary overlap with KO2001? While KO focuses on the most common kanji, I remember other members here pointed out that the number of kanji that show up in compounds is larger.
Second, while I think the KO2001 sentences are much better (at least they are more diverse and natural), is the lack of audio big enough a reason to use iKnow? Which again brings me to the question of how much the content overlaps.
Alternatively, is there merit in first finishing one of them, let's say iKnow, and then do KO2001 for everything that's still missing?
This brings me to bodhisamaya's suggestion:

The kanji order in the core series is very bad and becomes a huge headache as you progress especially when you get past the easy vocabulary in the first two steps. So much work was put into creating the sentences and adding native readings but the kanji order was done lazily as a complete after-thought it seems.
This seems like a good alternative. It covers all the vocabulary that KO covers (it does, right?) and I heard the vocabulary list CosCom made is very good, also, when you finish the iKnow KO list it should be easy to just continue with KO sentences for the remaining kanji? As for using iKnow Core afterwards, it seems like a lot of work to sort out the redundancy, but please correct me if that's not true.
