Wasn't aware of that app, looks promising. But I assume the more official apps such as the kenkyusha one provide features and the like. I will def be giving iDic a whirl though once I get a dictionary file downloaded. Does it have a save function?

Just out of curiosity to the people using iDic, what dictionaries do you have loaded on it and what do you recommend?

Ehh... ...that's a switch, not a wireless router.
You need to find something that says:
無線LAN
Maybe you should ask a Japanese friend/coworker who has some technical experience to help you, before you buy the wrong item...
If you have never played with wireless routers before, maybe that friend can help you. These days, it's much, much easier to set up than before, but you still need to understand some networking basics.

If you have a laptop with a wifi adaptor then you could just create an adhoc network with that...

So if I understand this correctly, then I can create a wireless connection from my laptop which my ipod could access, right?
That even works although my laptop is only connected via cable modem to the internet and I don't have any access to any wifi here?
That would be awesome and cheap!

The set-up was really easy, but I can't connect at all plus it's asking me for a network key and a password?!

I was told that this set-up wouldn't work. My ipod would be able to access my computer this way, but still wouldn't have wifi access.
So my question from before (which is still urgent) is: which of the listed routers above can I buy. Which of those can connect to a cable modem?
Thanks again.

It depends how you want to set up your network. There are two ways:
P = phone socket
V = current VDSL modem
W1 = new wireless router/VDSL modem combo unit
W2 = new wireless router
1. Direct: P <- W1
2. Through your current VSDL modem: P <- V <- W2
Any wireless router will work in the second configuration. In this configuration, your wireless router looks like a PC from the POV of the VDSL modem. Your wireless router will forward requests from your laptop and iPod Touch out to the internet.
That Netgear should work fine - I've used them when I lived in the US. I've had good experiences with Buffalo here in Japan. I currently use the Buffalo WHR-HP-G.

Wow, thank you soooooooo much for your quick answer. I'm going crazy here, so I'm really thankful (;o;'')
Actually I have no idea what would work the best.
I don't wanna change my internet provider. I don't know if I'd have to for one of the options you named?
What's the least complicated?
Can I connect a wireless router direclty into the telephone box thingie? (btw. I don't have a phone line, I don't have a phone if that matters). I'm not sure how the cable modem connects to the internet. There's only one phone box and that's where the cable goes in (that's confusing as we have 2 in Germany ...)
Would one of the cheaper ones (around 4000-ish) like the Planex or I.O. DATA thingie work, too?
Thanks again *bows*

1. You don't need to change your provider
2. Any wireless router will work
Having said that, the differences between the brands tend to be in:
1. Wireless range (that doesn't matter to you)
2. Reliability (interference with wireless phones, etc...)
3. Ease and flexibility of software set-up (different encryptions, packet forwarding, etc)
In the past, I've had issues with Reliability (signal drops, etc...) - that's why I don't mind paying a little bit more for known models that work well, but you might get lucky with a cheap one - just because a model costs more doesn't necessarily guarantee it will work better.
-----------------------
That's correct - the wireless router will take the place of your current pc.
