Why that kanji for your forum avatar?

#1
Why'd you choose it? This thread has probably been done before but -.-

Mine is my girlfriends surname.

For mine the meanings are:

Quote:be careful;
discrete;
humility;
prudent;
I think that these are good guidelines for life and study.
Might be a bit corny though..

Um I just really liked the shape of mine and the idea of the story that I used behind it.

I put my favorite kanji at first (強) but then decided on a kanji I have trouble remembering, so I would see it all the time.

I chose the kanji with the most strokes I could find, and I set it as my avatar just so I can see it all the time and remember how to write it :p

I love 火, I think it's one of the most beautiful yet extremely simple.

If I had a kanji avatar, I'd probably have 龍 (although that one's been taken by someone else and I think making duplicate avatars is potentially confusing). I don't know why, that's always been my favorite kanji since I discovered it. I guess it's 'cause Chinese dragons are cool, and this kanji has more... I dunno... dignity to it than the simplified version (竜), but I don't really care about Chinese dragons... I just like the kanji for some reason.

My favorite kanji is without a doubt 之. But my avatar I just picked semi-randomly, I don't think I could change it now.

鵬 is one of two kanji on one of my official inkans here in Japan. I used to use it for my bank account and whatnot, but now its just sitting around collecting dust because I've since changed places of employment and they requested I make a new inkan.

Another reason is I often forget how to write this kanji (I'm not yet to it in RtK) and I like the meaning.

I didn't use one at all until I came across a heisig keyword with paddy in it...
I thought, well, at least no one else will use something as lame as paddy-ridge....

no offense to anyone who is actually using an avatar as lame as paddy-ridge Smile

you don't use your Vietnamese name? Nguyen^~: 阮, Le^: 黎, v.v.

post any part of your name (first or last) and I'll give you the character (I've got tons of Han-Viet books).

Wikipedia is the best place too look up Viet names, they usually give the Han characters next to names of famous and historic people.
