The Encouragement Thread

Holy crap! I woke up this morning with 219 cards to review! That's the problem with adding kanji at a faster pace - after a couple days at the higher pace, the review really get intense.

HAHA. I feel your pain.

I once had 242 card review. When I first started putting cards into Anki, I added the old ones a lot faster than the new ones. I kept giving the cards similar marks on review and somehow adding them at just the right intervals and boom. I'm just glad that most of them were cards that I really knew well.

On another note. I'm feeling kind of strange right now. I decided to try and get back on a nighttime sleep cycle for school. It's 2 in the afternoon right now and I feel like I'm about to kill over any second. But, if I do, I'll have wasted valuable hours of my life.

I'll get the stories I need today. Though I have a feeling I won't be remembering them tomorrow, lol. 8)

I haven't added new kanji in almost two weeks.. But I added and reviewed 30 today.. Felt pretty nice.

I was just being lazy before.. The only way to learn these are to just force them into your day rather than wait around for a 'good time' to review.

I'm beginning to think there is no such thing as a "good time" for anything....

I remember those days of being nocturnal. Jeez, really sucks to get back normal. You know what I did? Swimming/running laps!
PS. I sent you an email back.

Rats. So you mean I must actually leave the house? Sigh.

Didn't get to 1150 so, I'm attempting to add 75-100 today. I'll break it up into intervals of 25, and see how I do. 8)

Others may disagree, but I found that I got best results studying kanji in groups of 12 or 13. I felt like it got significantly more difficult when I went above that. I feel like I picked that up from someone else on the forums and it definitely worked out for me.

Reached 200 which is like 10% of the way there (if 10% of 2042 equals 200).

Woo, finally got back those pesky 118 kanji I mentioned earlier (and some more). I removed all the kanji and just went through all the lessons again during work. Heh, I love night shifts - so nice and quiet Smile I've probably never been that productive ever!

It's pretty fun, especially the ever-changing shifts! 6 days of work, then 4 days off Big Grin

Reached 240 which is like more than 10% of the way there. It is darn near 12.5% of the way there.

Dammit, only got to 550 yesterday. I'll aim for 600 again today and if I feel like doing more, I will do, I guess.

Congratulations MAN!!!

I hate you Tongue

LOL

GOoD job!!!

I've fallen behind. Focus seems impossible for me now. Perhaps I should have waited till I was finished to get back into a normal swing.

I'm replacing my normal 88 time with learning kanji as of today. During these times are the only times within the last couple of days I didn't feel as though I was simultaneously awake and asleep. Once I finish, or get used to being up during day, I should be able to push the 88 back into my schedule.

Edit:

HAh I'm at 1200 now. The 88 will have to forgive me for the time being.

I think that might be a story for one of these kanjis.

I find myself at 260 (even though oneself was back at 36).

I was stuck at lesson 23 for 3 looong days but I am finally over it Big Grin
I reached 795 tonight. Tomorrow is another hard lesson, with 95 kanji; but I will do the 95 tomorrow. Very easy with the help of the shared stories Smile

Congrats to those who finished! You are an inspiration for those of us still struggling halfway hehe

Keep it up, Hector. I'm hoping to catch you up by Tuesday!

I'm at 650 now. Doing things in 50s is really speeding the process up, wow.

EDIT:
My good lord! I am not looking forward to Tuesday.

After complaining 2 pages ago, I've killed my review pile, tweaked stories, and gotten my piles down to zero again, with retention back at about 85% where I like it. Time to add a few more kanji before my next trip this week.

No laptop again, but I loaded KanjiGym onto my Treo, and will use it to do some quick reviews here and there. I'll still have a huge stack after the trip, but hopefully my retention will be much higher than last time.

So, the encouragement: you'll rebound after a week off, even in the middle of a difficult lesson like 18, where I'm at. Keep at it!
