General Music Recommendation Thread (Japanese, of course)

nest0r Wrote:Oh and it's not quite the same, but if you're into the whole psychedelic mantra/noisy rock stuff (that's what I remember of Flower Travelin' Band, hehe) check out another Japanese artist(s), Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO.

Example:
Looks like there's going to be a massive Acid Mothers Temple show in May in Tokyo: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/f...430l9.html

This album really caught me off guard.
I had a bunch of new albums and just let them play in the background.

"Jah Islands" is probably my favorite song on the album.

Reviving this thread to recommend the song トイレの女神様 by 植村花菜. If you type the title of the song into Youtube you can find it easily.

Personally, I think it's a great song, though it is super sad. It's a kind of folky guitar song, and the singer is a girl. It's almost ten minutes long, and is a true story about her relationship with her grandmother, who told her that a beautiful goddess lives in the bathroom.

I'm just posting it because I think it's great for language learners. It's really easy to hear what she is saying, it's pretty slow, and most of the vocabulary isn't so difficult. (I'm roughly JLPT 2 level, and only didn't understand 2 or 3 words) Plus, it's ten minutes long, so it's a lot of material.

The only part that might be hard is that there's a little bit of Kansai-ben in the lyrics (especially when she's quoting her grandmother, or singing as if she's talking to her grandmother). So just remember that やで could probably be seen as similar to だよ, や is だ, and that ホンマ is just 本当.

I came across this music video today. It is great for this thread because the lyrics pop up in kanji/kana as he sings them.
Enjoy!

Two bands I've been listening to lately:

ミュージック by サカナクション is really happy, with a nice beat. The later version of the chorus (around 4:00) never fails to cheer me up.

For those who like rock, ONE OK ROCK is really good.

I was just listening to that this morning. While thinking about the dangers of listening to music that makes you want to cry at work. Second the recommendation.

wanted to recommend this singer/songwriter. she never disappoints me!
her last name is hatakeyama!

oh i've tried listening to that sang toire no kami-sama a while ago. that song just bores me lyrically etc tec and i feel nothing. it seems popular so i'm not surprised people are recommending it. i personally don't recommend that song. if you like it, that's good. but if you don't like it don't force yourself to listen to it in the hopes that you'll start liking or something because that won't happen.
