Rock and roll

#1
I've been wanting to expand my Japanese music library to more than just J-pop and J-rock. One of the things I like listening to in English is rock and roll, mostly Elvis. Is there something like this in Japanese? Maybe some artists from the 50s-70s? And any suggestions on some sites where I can listen to them?

Bonnie Pink has a cover of "Blackbird"... it may not be what you are looking, but I recommend you to listen to her version. =)

I think most of the stuff that's easy to find out there is the mainstream pop, rock, etc. The older generation doesn't seem to share their music online as much, or if they do, my Japanese isn't good enough yet to find it..

When I think of Jpop trying to capture some of that old time 50's feel, I think of the poppier stuff..

AKB48: "Classmate" or "Nagisa no CHERRY".
Country Musume ni Konno to Fujimoto:"Shining Itoshiki Anata"
Mini Moni: "Rock and Roll Kenchoushozaichi"
Berryz Koubou: "Waracchaou yo BOYFRIEND"

Probably not what you had in mind, but it bears a lot more resemblance to old time rock than any J-rock or visual kei stuff that I can think of.

You should try to give Ulfuls a try! They're totally awesome and play a quite original style. Check videos on YouTube Smile
