Ok Thunk....I'm close dude. Frame 1977...3 Lessons to go! I've been in overdrive the last 7 days, adding 330, and still going. Barring a natural disaster I'll make my goal, and finish today (3 in the morning now, but that's prime time for me). I will be dealing with some nasty reviews for a bit though, and less than optimal %'s, but that's fine, It will all iron out.

Can't wait to see your victory post. Thanks for the positivity!

I just unofficially hit the 3/4 point at 1500. It's taken me just less than 2 months with 25 kanji a day. I hope to be finished by the end of my school year which is mid to late may. Good luck and congratulations to all who are passing through here!

1561! The final straight...

I'm at 1525 right now and funnily enough the finish line seems to be more far away than it ever was. My retention rate dropped dramatically after I switched to Anki, but I had no other choice as my internet was cut off for a month and I had to review SOMEHOW. Screw those huge fail piles though, I'm going to go for the end-of-May deadline I set for myself two months ago anyway.

I know how you feel. At ~1980 with less than 50 to go....my motivation to was as low as it had ever been. Just keep pushing through, you'll get there :-)

Alright, I hit 1546 today. Feels good. My motivation is soooo low. I'm trying to just push through. I'm doing 40 per day and I plan to finish by May 30th. This is sooo hard, but I'm doing it so I can more easily study the Japanese that I do so love. Just gotta... finish... kanji Tongue

It's almost 1:00 am in the morning and the final stretch is almost in my reach

I added #1530 just now. Progress has been slower than expected so far, but then staying on schedule has never been my strongest asset. Big Grin

Timeline:

30th March: ordered RTK
3rd April: registered on RevTK
9th May: added #1026
27th May: added #1530

A rate of 27.7 per day for the most recent quarter, down from a rate of 28.5 for the first half. At this rate I should be finished by June 10th. If I can finish by 3rd June and break the two month barrier I'll be over the moon.

Woo!!! I'm back in the groove, 20 a day, see you here soon 3/4ths people!!

I am at 1531 right now. 3,5 monthes after starting RTK. First 500 was done in 2 weeks (thought I`d finish in 2 monthes). Second 500 kanjis took 1 month. Third 500 took 2 monthes. I feel like a marathon runner after 30 km. Motivation is quite low, but having progressed this far, now I am sure that I will make it to the end of this kanji marathon (though, I don`t want to schedule when it will happen).
On the plus side: I am happy with my retention rate (about 90% now, while during first 2 monthes of study it was about 75%).

Good luck, everybody!

Checking in. At from 1600. Hit a really hard deadlock in the 1200s.

Yes!!! Made it. 3/4 and the end seems farther away than at 1/2. So tedious lately.

Frame 1531 today! It's getting more and more time consuming. Luckily I'm stuck at an isolated mining camp right now with nothing better to do than study kanji all day. My personal journey towards kanji fluency was something like this.

Sep. 2008: first ran across RTK1 and started studying very casually, not every day.
Winter 2008-2009. Continued to study on occasion but having reached 400 frames or so I found it difficult to keep track of which ones needed repetition.
April 2009: Stumbled upon this website and registered immediately! From this point on I really started pushing much harder. Now it's been 62 days and I've averaged ~25 kanji per day. Certainly not an aggressive rate of learning, but I haven't had much free time until the last 2 weeks.

Fail pile is a daunting 83 but I'm not going to worry about that for now. How big are other people's fail piles?

I didn't review or study at all from Mid April till 2 weeks ago so my fail pile is at a whopping 323 cards. I'm not too worried about it though since I should be able to easier learn something I've already seen Smile

Zero. I refuse to tuck in for the night until they are all disposed of. Getting near the halfway point here: Working on stories and adding cards in the 1300s, but only 977 in box 5 to this point. But the number in box 5 seems to be like a ratchet -- it only gets bigger.

Just realised I went past the 3/4 point and didn't realise. At 1560 right now. Feeling good! I think I'll be done in the next 2 weeks. Then I can concentrate on reviews and start sentences.

Hit 1530 today!!! I've been doing one lesson a day for a week and a half - which tends to be 30-50 a day, but one day I did 100 cards and it was too much. After whipping through about 500 kanji I know I am about to get pounded with reviews. ugh. I can handle 100 reviews a day, but more than that...

Hell yeah, I'm onto 1531 and moving on up to the last stretch! Now it's just starting to sink in as to what I've done so far. Stick with it, all it takes now is the will to repeat the process over and over again. Success is inevitable.

Class of July 2009 anyone?

Woo keep it up. Success is inevitable! And after that, Japanese fluency is inevitable. Its all just a matter of time.

1530 today, woo. Ended up switching my methods around a bit at the 1000 mark after the notebook I was writing my stories in ended up completely full, so I started just writing the new kanji once and not writing the story in my practice book. Also, I had a full day once, and ended up without enough time to review in the evening the kanji added that day.

Turns out adding a new set of kanji just before bed and reviewing the new additions the day after worked fine for my memory even without writing the story. Benefit to shifting this pattern around is starting a job tomorrow where I'll just have lunch period to do reviews then back to work, and I like having a good sized break of 3 hours+ in-between adding stories and doing a full set of reviews, just to make sure the stories have at least sunk in a bit.

Also, for a bit of extra reinforcement, started pre-reading the stories of the kanji I'm adding that day, after I do my morning reviews. Then going through thoroughly in the evening forms a bit better associations it seems. Reviews are up to 130ish a day now with ~2-5 fails generally, + the new 30-60 reviews of the kanji added the day before.

Overall, managed to keep my pace of 1 lesson a day since 1000 (I stopped adding and just did reviews for about a week because of exams), and should be finished mid-July.
