Has anyone actually been accepted to the google group? I emailed a request and sent my photo proof of ownership and everything but I haven't heard back. Is the owner away or something?

I've just been doing the UBJG cards all this week, and I've gone through all of parts 3 and 4, and corrected any mistakes on the main spreadsheet. I've noted the changes in a side column for reference. Most of the structures seem relatively familiar already to me, so I felt I could catch most of the problems. So although I haven't been checking the sentences against the book as I go, I think it's fair to say that those two sections have been checked once. So any beginners would probably be relatively safe in starting them. Unfortunately I didn't need to do the first two parts as I'd already added them individually before the whole project started. I'm sure someone else will catch any problems.
Anyway, good job all, start reaping the rewards. If there's a problem, please take the time to alter the main spreadsheet, but remember some context has been added to aid the comprehension of individual sentences so not all of them are book-perfect.

I`m ready to put my sentences in the spreadsheet, but I`m apparently still not accepted into the google group. Advice? Solicitations? Crazy dance moves?

Well shoot off an email to the owner of the group, it's 'brown' or 'nemeie' or something like that.

I was accepted the other day.
I added my section to the spreadsheet, but I've got some extra non-bolded sentences as well. Would be alright to add those to this sheet?

If you add it as a link, I can edit the sentences then add them.

I've uploaded it to Google Docs and sent you an email about it. I've never used Google Docs before and am still a little unsure about some things, but hopefully it'll work.

Okay, emailed the owner.

Housekeeping.
Albion, maybe you should just add the non-bolded sentences as a lump on the end of your own personal spreadsheet, and we can add just the bolded ones to the main spreadsheet once the other typers have caught up to your section. Then they'll still be available to others but not part of the main spreadsheet.

Actually I emailed that part to Nukemarine two weeks ago. It's up on the spreadsheet.
No idea what to do about this google groups thing. I sent a follow up email but I'm not even getting a reply.

The google group is dead I think. The UBJG thread is the only active one now. Soon as it's done, I'm sure it'll die entirely.
The website set up to replace it is seeing limited activity. I can't access it from ship, so I've been using Google Groups.
Anyway, I've been busier this summer than expected. Having to supervise 30 men and women in addition to 4 men that act like babies is turning out more of a time burner than I thought. I've been keeping up with reviews, but NOT ONE DAMN NEW THING. Which, I must say, is annoying the hell out of me seeing as I have only 5 months left in Japan before I transfer to Afghanistan. Ok, I'm a bit bitter.

Well Rollypop, just send nuke or I your email through the private messages on this website and we can perhaps just add your address and send you the link for the spreadsheet. You don't necessarily have to be a member of google groups to be able to see a spreadsheet, so maybe we'll just do that.
I don't know what to do about the other forum either. I haven't added anything except status reports so there is no content there. Perhaps it will also die.
I hear you, nuke, I'm home in five months too, so hopefully I can continue my motivation outside the country in preparation for a revenge trip.

Since this book seems to be getting so much love, I think I'll crash the party and toss in my opinion of it, since I've worked my way about halfway through it by now. In case anyone is thinking of buying it, hopefully it can help them make a more informed decision.
This book has a ton of great sentences (it's basically just a book full of sentences), so it's great for finding stuff to add into your SRS.
However, I think this book is terrible for actually learning grammar from. I would only recommend this to someone who has already studied quite a bit of grammar. The reason for this, is that rather complex sentence patterns are used in the sentences before they are really covered in the book! It's incredibly odd to come to a section filled with sentences about a certain grammatical point, and to realize that they have already been using it in a ton of sentences prior! Perhaps just as odd, it covers some points multiple times. Also, there is basically *NO* explanation of the grammar itself. You pretty much just get the sentences along with an English translation. The translations themselves are not very literal at all, having been written in "natural" English. I think this takes away some from the ability to really understand what the Japanese is conveying.
Personally, this all didn't bother me too much, since I already had a pretty good grasp of grammar and just wanted the sentences. If I was just starting out though, I think I would be really confused by this book!

theirs.

Nuke, Rollypop said he'd do the '194-197 (34 sentences) - none' part. See in the thread above. Rollypop, are you still doing it?
As for UBJG impressions, it isn't very forthcoming in explaining. I suppose it's implicitly learned, hopefully. I think it's not too bad to see a structure before you have it explained, it's kind of the presentation part, and then comes the explanation, followed by you reviewing it again. I don't think you are meant to only read through it once. It's a teaching book and a kind of reference. Anyway, best to start with an overall textbook, for beginners, such as Japanes for Everyone, or Genki, Minna no Nihogo, etc.

Is no one checking it anymore? Well I guess it IS dead after all...
EDIT: Oh, I see, you couldn't access the spreadsheet. Strange, since I added the whole group as collaborators. Can you check again? If it still doesn't work I'll just upload it somewhere else.

I just realized I have this book. I have a habit of buying Japanese books that I then rarely use.
I crammed a bunch of old books under my TV stand to fill up the space underneath because my cat kept knocking his favorite toy under the TV stand, and then would go ape shit until I got it out from underneath the TV stand. (which was a real pain)
I just dug out the book to have a look at it again.
It is lower level than what I am currently studying, but it would probably do me good to review some.. If possible, could I get access to the spreadsheet?
If you'd like, I can input some sentences too

I've just added rollypop manually to the spreadsheet. It's getting to be a lot of effort to get in touch with brown and join the google group.
Rich, I'm also getting a lot of requests from people I don't know, perhaps we need to think of a protocol, a set person to send evidence to and a type of evidence. Either you as the spreadsheet creator, or Nukemarine as the main instigator.
Rabite, maybe just add nuke manually to the spreadsheet and send him a pm to notify him. He can copy it to the main one. Or just copy it to the main one yourself, we can rearrange the parts later.

Phauna, Rabite and all others, thanks for the help. Yeah, let's get the sentences in the main format then edit later.
Sorry about dropping the ball for a bit there. Luckily, after I get back from Korea I'll be on vacation for a bit so can get more done. I get the feeling after this book gets entered it'll be full on studying for me.
