完全マスター漢字

anyone else bought the Kanzen Master Kanji book for 2kyuu?

It has some exercises in it that just seem impossible to me. You listen to a CD and write the sentences that it dictates to you. It repeats the sentence twice. It takes less than 15 seconds before it moves on to the next problem. I can't write nearly fast enough. A couple example sentence are このきんじょにさかなやさんはありますか。 and しんぶんによると、あのゆうめいなさっきょくかはもとかしゅだそうだ

I know that dictation isn't on the actually test so I'm not too worried. I was just curious if anyone here can write that speedily.

It's probably good writing practice, but I'll have to use the pause button :/

I bought it, and used it to prep for 2級, and it definitely helped me pass. BUT, I did not use the book as it instructed.

You're right, using it as prescribed would be very helpful, particularly for writing, and I agree that it's too fast to write-- I could barely write that fast even in English.

What's great about that book is the booklet that comes with it. I took it out, and wrote the keyword for each kanji (taken from Halpern's Kanji Learner's Dictionary). I then studied each kanji and learned the meanings in connection with the example vocabulary provided for each kanji. I personally drilled myself using Viaverbi and Mental Case, two SRS programs for Mac OS X. Mental Case has since been upgraded and is my choice on the Mac.

This allowed me to get my kanji and vocabulary up to a level good enough to pass in a short amount of time. Seeing as how you still have almost six months (I started studying about 3 months before and still slacked off a lot), I'd probably recommend going through it the prescribed way AND the way I described above.

Oh, and for the pausing thing, rip the CD and use iTunes, VLC, winamp, whatever-- MP3s are easier to pause/play than CDs, and you can use your spacebar as a pause button, making constantly pause/playing much easier.
