Was kinda using it mildly until today, but now I'm trying to ramp up so that I'm eliminating bad habits that are obviously interfering with the good ones I'm trying to make (e.g. watching Twitch all the time and not committing to Japanese things). Going to list my current set of habits, dailies, goals, etc. Can anyone provide some good ones I should add? In addition to rewards.
Habits
・Read/listen to 1 hour of Japanese (Positive)
・Don't watch or play Dota2 (Positive / Negative)
・Don't drink pop, or eat desserts/snacks (Positive / Negative)
Dailies
・Anki reviews
・Read Japanese opinion pieces: Yomiuri / Asahi
・Write a Lang-8 entry
To-Do's
・Translate resume to Japanese
・Move to Japan
I actually just asked a friend about this and he said quantifying tasks would be better(e.g., add X amounts of sentences into anki, read a chapter of a novel or manga). Those examples are meant for the Dallies. As for habits, I'm adding things that I should be doing more than once a day. Here is an example of my lists
Habits
・Read 10 more pages in 日本語 (+)
・Watch another episode on raw Japanese media (+)
・Pocoyo season 1(+)
・Hug bf (+) <---I wanted a freebie for exp lol
・The other default habits
Dallies
・RTK 30 漢字
・Listen to Pocoyo audio
・Watching an episode of raw Japanese media (drama, TV show, or anime...w/e)
・Read 1 chapter of a manga or light novel
To-Do's
・Create audio playlist for Pocoyo containing 7 episodes
・Finish tweeking RTK deck with Japanese keywords
The dallies I add tasks to things I
must do on a daily basis with a strict deadline. The habits section are things I can do in addition, basically an incentive to do more than the minimal (dallies). That is why my habits are similar to my dallies. To-Do's are just dumb things I need to do with no real deadline.
I plan to pair Habitica with the Forrest app. The Forrest app I think will be more useful for book keeping time spent on certain tasks. It is easy to label each tree grown too and the app keeps a history of how many trees grown that day. I'll try this pairing out for a week or so and update everyone of the results
