For anyone who likes meaningless character count statistics

#26
Quick update:

Since my last update, I've reread my Journey to the West comics, InuYasha book 4, and Narnia book 5. My card count now stands at 3725, for an increase of 35 cards, of which about half were characters that I'd missed the first time through, and half were characters that I noticed did not have their own card yet.

Next I'll be reading a book of Grimm's fairy tales (which has ruby text on everything - yay) for the first time, and then a light novel called 天使的咖啡馆, also for the first time.

Nice, where did you get that?

This was a random lucky find at a bazaar in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and I think this book is out of print, but I think probably most Taiwanese fairytale books and books for small children have ruby text:

Here's a different series of Grimm books with ruby text:

Congrats JimmySeal!
I think that you have found your own pace (quite fast in fact).

Hey, JimmySeal, I was just wondering what 漫畫 you read based on 西遊記. Sometimes it's difficult to tread through the huge amount of material out there to find good things, though I'm glad I studied traditional characters because it seems most 漫畫 are in traditional.

I'm very interested in your method after reading through those papers you posted earlier in the thread. Have you found your progress to be similar to what the guy proposed, that you struggle with understanding for a few weeks (or months?) but find that after a while it starts to make sense? I guess my main fear is getting character readings (especially multiple readings) mixed up (為 and 著 mix me up at times) by discarding the dictionary more. Did you ever have any problems reading a character wrong for a while?

I guess I ask mostly because I'm in the stage of deciding how to keep adding things to my SRS now that I've finished RTH2. Should I add sentences (which can be tedious), just words (which can lead to just translating, but is faster and could lead to more immersion/reading) or simply words that contain new character readings (and less SRSing in general, which is nice)? It seems the latter has been working wonders for you. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for posting us these figures. It definitely gives me more confidence that the top 3,000 characters you learn in RTH give you a solid base in Chinese character acquisition from which you can go out and learn new characters as necessary.

If I'm not mistaken, my Chinese dictionary only has about 3,700 traditional characters in it (or was it 4200? Not sure).
