祖母 is Japanese and Chinese
奶奶 is Chinese only

Well from both guessing and checking e-dict
奶奶　is more home-sounding (akin to 第第,姊姊) while 祖母 may be used in a more formal setting.
I'm just throwing guesses here. So many times i've been wrong. 太太 for example is what I learnt in my studies, but according to my Chinese friend at work it's rude and almost derogatory to use it now, but in Taiwan I think it's fine to use this, and 小姐 is just as rude too and doesn't actually refer to a young woman, but rather implies a girl that goes out at night and goes to bars etc, but again in TW i think it's fine. I'm not sure, the resources I'm studying off are Taiwanese, my friend is a mainlander

I've heard 小姐 a dozen times in TW movies, and we learn "peking" chinese at school, and they told us it's rude..... xP

And yes I just asked my friend, he said the first is usually seen written and the latter is mainly in speech, however it is fine to use both. I guess it's similar to Father vs Dad
