For movies, I'm a sucker for 武俠 (wuxia) and period dramas. Hero, Crouching Tiger, Legend of the Black Scorpion, Seven Swords, even some older stuff like Bride with White Hair, etc. Infernal Affairs and A Better Tomorrow are great too (I have Mandarin dubbed versions), and I like some of the classic Shaw Brothers films, like 36th Chamber of Shaolin and The One-Armed Swordsman. I also LOVE Wong Kar-Wai's work, especially 2046. Any of this stuff that's originally in Cantonese can be found in Mandarin-dubbed versions.

TV shows, I don't really know so much about. I have the Seven Swordsmen TV series, which I haven't watched yet, and the 三國演義 series from 1993 that I watched a few episodes of a while back but never finished.

Most all the Mandarin music/videos/entertainment I like is Taiwanese rather than Chinese, so I am not sure if I can add too much to the discussion.

Nice, nice thread. I'm always looking for chinese musicians but can't find none. I Only know Sa Ding Ding but never listened to her. I know her because she won an award not too long ago.

There is a huge thread about this on chinese-forums.com. Still this should be a cool thread since we all do things the Heisig way - and therefore have a somewhat different general perspective.
As for music: I like a song called 我的家在东北 forgot the name of the band, but a baidu search will give you a download link.
A GREAT beginner song (which I have ankified (of course including sound)) is 小薇

Ok very mainstream his music is nice! 王力宏 (Wang Lee-Hom, Tawainese ABC though). I haven't been watching a lot of Chinese movies lately but 赤壁 1&2 were nice. Also Chinese indie movies are really good, don't ask me for names though, I pick them blindly when at the DVD shop haha.

I admit it. I'm a sucker for a good Mandypop.

Especially when it's sung in a clear, sweet and distinct voice. Even more so when it offers a scrolling karaoke chiron so I can read along. Even more more so when I can understand the simple lyrics. And even more more more so when it features Josie "Guo Mei Mei" Kwok!

And the fact that someone would translate the Numa Numa song into Chinese amuses me to no end.

阿修罗乐队 is probably my favorite Chinese band I've found. They sound really similar to Linkin Park.
