I'm reading the story of these brave men in this morning's Sunday newspaper. It's really inspiring to see stories about real courage like this.

Right. They're US Air Force and US National Guard. So? Sucks that we can't make Full Metal Jacket references, but that's about the only difference.

The original narrative by the media was that all of them were marines. This led to much praise and gratitude for marines and annoying circlejerk-like "semper fi" quotes on social media when in reality (something the media has trouble with), all of this credit was undeserved. I fear the damage has already been done.

I was glad when I read that President Obama personally telephoned the men to thank them for their heroic efforts. Certainly warranted.

What damage? Who got damaged by the news getting a technicality wrong?
