One thing I wish the RTK2 book had...

#1
...is at least an appendix with the actual RTK1 keywords that go with each of the kanji. Even better, put the keyword in each frame in the book.

Righ now the book only gives each kanji's RTK1 number so I constantly have to refer back to the first volume or various downloads/spreadsheets if I need to review/check a kanji's keyword.

Perhaps the idea was that when you pick up the RTK2 book in order to work on it, you will have learned the keywords in RTK1 so thoroughly that it is unnecessary to list the keywords in RTK2...but this is probably not the case for most people.

Maybe Mr. Heisig will see this message....

That would make RTK1 kind of pointless.

It's not pointless. RTK 1 is more than keywords, it's also the stories. Maybe that's what the publishers are thinking - that nobody would buy RTK 1 when the keywords are in vol 2. I can't say if it would be good for business, but I have added RTK keywords to the back of my anki vocabulary cards and it's hugely helpful to have them as a reminder. I can only imagine if I ever decide to do RTK 2, I will figure out a way to have the keywords there at a glance.

Thanks. I find that as I work through RTK2 I'm constantly having to peek at the keywords. Although most of the time I can remember the keyword, a lot of the time I'm just not sure and want to double check (and usually I turn out to be correct).

You make a good point about the publishers--I hadn't thought of that, that maybe the publishers are afraid that if they put the keywords into RTK2 then sales of RTK1 will be reduced.

I never completed RTK2, but I feel your pain.

I'm not sure how most people are going through RTK these days, but I had the physical book when I did it way back when. At the time, I really wanted the whole RTK series to be made into some sort of computer app, where things could be cross referenced, copied, pasted, and reviewed easily.

Maybe it's time I stepped up to the plate and made the program myself, with original stories of course.

...oh wait, I'm not creative enough to come up with that many stories...or know how to create computer programs...and I'm just generally lazy...

Well, nevermind.
