For the people who don't know what is "Dokugakusha", it's an android application with multiple features like morphological analyzer, lists of favourite words, dictionaries with JLPT level in words, an emerging window which works like rikaikun/ chan, etc.

Available in Spanish/ English. A lot of work here and still don't stop. I have a lot of ideas to implement but not the time I would like.

For this 1.1v, new feature Kanji searcher in this release and some minor fixes.

This is the first notice I have about that issue. Nobody before had any problem with the "emerging window". Could you tell me what android version are you running in your phone? Does it happen always when you go to the menu --> "open emerging window"?

I've tested it a lot in emulators and other different phones than mine, never get problems at all. It's quite strange but I need some more feedback to catch it.

About your question, yes, the "morphological analyzer" shows de-conjugations. Besides you can read furigana on/off, colourize different kind of morphemes, read definitions, conjugations, etc.

Where are you downloading the dictionaries from?

Also, great job with this. There are plenty of iOS front ends, but maximum data is actually what's needed.

The morphological analyzer is my own design, of course. I did a lot of research some time ago and then tried doing something about it. Dokugakusha right now is 1.1v but it was beta for some weeks while I was taking feedback from people.

The dictionaries are based on the "Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group" (edrdg.org) databases, but I added some other interesting data in it and adapted to my features.I tell it in the "about" section in Dokugakusha. Thanks for your words. I would like to do something in IOS, but I just have android phones. Honestly I made this app only for me, but then I realized that maybe it could be useful for other people. Because of that I share Dokugakusha for Android and trying take feedback about the interface, etc. The very first versions of the app were very ugly. :-D

The parts there, then, are all hand coded? For instance 詳しい from that picture lists 言, 羊, 王, 丷. Did you make those choices or are you picking that out from a database?

I based my own databases on the "edrdg" databases for my own purpose. I tell it in Dokugakusha, as it's required by its owners.

About the radicals, some of them were added by me once I did the proper research.

Would be nice if once you picked a radical, the kanji radical search greyed out other radicals which have no kanji results, like jisho.org does. I've been looking for a small offline kanji radical search app for a while now, and if your app had the greying out feature, I think it might be perfect for my needs.

I think your idea is very interesting, I haven't thought that. I will try to implement it for next releases.

The implementation about the feature that Bokusenou said, it's almost complete. I Just need to polish it a little bit more and it's very likely that this feature go for the next release.

No, it doesn't (by the moment). Sorry.

Version 1.12 released. (it takes some time till google play release the new version)

- Reset button added in the kanji searcher
- In the kanji searcher the radicals which have no kanji results now are greyed out.
- In the kanji searcher the kanji results now are sorted by stroke count
- It's not possible anymore to select numbers in the radicals grid (it's a problem fixed)

@ktcgx I use Mazec for this, in combination with a dictionary app. The Google handwriting IME app might work for this too.

Is Mazec free? I use Aedict, but it's not free any more, so I can't really recommend it to my students to use because of that...

EDIT, sorry early morning, I just realised I misunderstood your reply... It'd be really cool to have a section of an app where you can multi-kanji look up using handwriting

The next release will bring some changes in the "emerging window". I'm thinking about an option to use it as a kind of "dictionary lite floating" or so. Maybe it could be useful for searching words writing by yourself while reading something (on the navigator, pdf, whatever) without changing between apps.

I too have gotten an emerging window crash, although it didnt actually crash the program, it just minimized the window like if i pressed the x button, which I could then open again from the notifications screen like normal. It did however throw out the stopped working error.

It happened when I was copying the text, but only when I tried getting it from ankidroid as well as from the default mail app that my phone has.

Other than that, emerging window and the rest of the program works fine for me so far. You mentioned about installing all the components, the only one I didnt install was the japanese-spanish dictionary, as I dont use spanish, should i have that on top of what i have now

This is all on my Droid Maxx, Android version 4.4.4

Overall I like it. I've only had a little time to play with it so far but it was fun.
One feature that I might suggest, although I don't know how easy it would be to add, would be the ability to scan physical text with the camera and get stuff like that way, as there are times when I see a kanji that I want to look up, but don't know how to type it and don't have time to look it up in a dictionary. Google translate app has this ability, and it works reasonably well (but only with an internet connection) when I want to look stuff up. In theory I could copy stuff from there to this app, but it would be a nice addition to this one if possible

The problem related to the emerging window crashing, I thing more or less why it could happen, but not sure 100%. It's relating to the way I implemented how to get the text and pass it through the system to the emerging window. I'll check more this question...

About your suggestion regarding to a "scanner" for real text using the camera, man I tried time ago, compiling huge libraries (more than 500MB or so) a lot of waste of time trying things, but I didn't like at all the final result. So far nothing accurate with the libraries I tried. I could dig more in those algorithms but there isn't much information about. I keep it in mind, would like to implement this "scanner", but by the moment I have no all the time I need. :-(

I installed dokugakusha and have been using it as my offline dictionary. It's pretty nice for that. Good job, definitely, thanks.

I was looking forward to the emerging window feature, but unfortunately for me it always crashes. (The app doesn't crash, but I get a message that it has stopped whenever I copy text.) I told it to send feedback and include system logs so you should have the details already. I'm on a Galaxy 5 with Android 5.0.

I don't actually know how it's meant to work, but nothing I did except copying text got any response so I assume that's how you send text to the window. This is a little unfortunate, since I'm reading a book in Google Play Books, and I can't actually copy the text there as far as I know. I was hoping I'd get another option upon selecting text or something, but I guess that would be really difficult ... perhaps even impossible for applications that override the standard widgets on selected text like Google Play Books does.

On the other hand, for anyone who cares about handwriting input, I'm having no trouble with using Google's handwriting IME.
Well, -now- I'm not. It doesn't play nice with other IMEs though, or more accurately, other IMEsdon't play nice with google - you can switch to any IME from google, but not always switch back from other IMEs. Of course you can always go back to system settings, but that's a pain. So I just installed google IMEs also for kana input and English input and now everything's fine.

This is terribly low priority but... it's a little odd that there are still spanish titles in many dialogues even though I'm running in English. Someday you might finish internationalizing all your strings. Not that the spanish has actually hindered me in any way, it's always been obvious either because I'm familiar with what's in je dictionary apps or because I'm familiar with latin roots to words or some mix of the two... it would just be a little nicer is all.

(I wonder if it's internationalized to Japanese? I haven't switched my Android over yet, but I used to keep my Iphone in Japanese and plan to switch the Android soon now that I'm getting more familiar with the Android layout -- and have dictionaries installed in case I need to look up unknown words from the interface. )

About the issue related to the clipboard, I've fixed it for api 21. The way this api manages the clipboard is a little different as the api I developed Dokugakusha for (and the way I developed it). There was the problem I didn't notice yet.

Need to do some tests still but the next release will be launched soon. Thanks again for all your feedback.
