I find that when I'm focussing on reading Japanese I don't bother reviewing the kanji (RTK1, RTK2) at all, and conversely, when I decide to review the kanji, I end up doing that to the exclusion of all else (including reading). It's like I can't do both at the same time. It would be good to do both at the same time but it's hard to strike a balance.

Do others find the same thing?

Average for days studied: 10.6 minutes a day. Somehow I still fail to find the time (read: forget) to review on about 10% of days...

But when I'm reading something, I'm usually also adding new words, which practically forces me to do my reviews.

Should be different. Recognizing complete words while reading takes a fraction of a second, whereas reproducing a character from a keyword takes a few seconds. Two different things.

It sounds like you don't have a problem at all. It sounds like you're in a flow state and enjoying what you're doing. If you weren't enjoying, that's when you'd be switching back and forth. I'd just go with it.
