Hello!

This is my first post so I thought I should start by contributing something to the community. I have been using RTK on and off when I'm not studying at University. It's an extremely effective method as far as I can see.

I wrote a macro to take the top 3 stories (and a bunch of other data) for ALL 3000 kanji available on this website! Also, for each kanji, I took some additional information from Tangorin.

It took a few hours to collect all the data because this website has a 1 second cool down. The following data was collected:

Number (from this website)
Kanji (from this website)
Keyword (from this website)
Meaning (from Tangorin)
Strokes (from this website)
Reading (from this website)
Story 1 (from this website)
Story 2 (from this website)
Story 3 (from this website)
Radical (from Tangorin)
Elements (from Tangorin)
Jinmeiyou (from Tangorin)
Jouyou (from Tangorin)
JLPT (from Tangorin)
Lesson (from this website)
Diagram (from Kanji Colorizer)

I have also provided a card layout for this deck. Obviously, you can customize the cards yourself but I think mine is pretty good especially if you're lazy. The front of the card is the keyword. The back of the card is the kanji, a stroke order diagram, and either your own personal story or all three of the top three stories as of 17/07/15 from this website. If you fill in the field for "My Story", it will show you your story instead of the top three stories. The kanji on the back of the card is also hyperlinked to this website's correlating page so that you can browse more stories if you're interested. I set the text decoration to none and color to black so that the text is not underlined and blue. I find it distracting if I leave it as it is. You'll understand what I mean if you download my deck.

Admin: posting decks containing content scraped from Kanji Koohii! is not allowed on the forum. As long as I'm admin on here I do not want to see these decks posted here. Post it elsewhere where I don't see it. I find it upsetting and demoralizing. These decks are slowly, but surely driving people away from Kanji Koohii and ultimately will make me quit developing the site. I find it also very upsetting just how entitled you guys are about taking data from websites and reposting it as if you are doing some kind of "community service".

TLDR: don't post decks containing scraped Kanji Koohii! stories on this forum. Better yet, grow some appreciation for the work people put into their sites, and keep your deck to yourself.

Well, gee, I'm sorry I had to put some code in place to stop people from bringing the site down with their scripts.

I'm glad collecting all this data is working out for your needs.

Once you learn how to code maybe you can use proper resources like KANJIDIC, JMDICT, etc.

And, potentially, the needs of the other people in this community. Do you think I posted my deck and the data I collected on here just for myself? If you hadn't noticed, I didn't share the deck on Ankiweb. I was using MEGA to host the deck. I shared this deck exclusively with this community.

I do know how to code. You really don't have to be so mean. If anybody is driving people away from Kanji Koohii, it's you! You bully!

I don't even believe that you believe this nonsense.

Hahaha, kids these days, the obliviousness:
- stealing personal stories from a personal site and telling you shouldn't take it personally.
- not seeing how distributing the resource elsewhere is bound to have a negative effect on traffic.
- thinking the community needs his deck when scraping top stories is useless to people that follow the method.

By self righteous admin, I hope you realize that ファブリス is the site's owner, and it's thanks to him that both this site and forum exist. If he wanted he could for all intents and purposes shut down the site completely tomorrow and there is nothing anyone could do about it. If it weren't for his hard work, a number of things like subs2srs and morphman wouldn't exist. So, if the site's owner doesn't want to ripping data from his site and re-posting data, then it would be wise to consider your attitude, and do the adult thing of apologizing for not knowing better than trying to start a fight.

- Copying and pasting over to the forums for people who prefer using Anki, you mean?
- I didn't distribute them elsewhere.
- I'm sorry, I didn't know there was strict a "make-up-your-own-story" rule when following the RTK method.

I know he's the owner, I'm just mad for getting burned for trying to help out. I guess you're right, it's his website. I'm also a bit upset because I did read the rules and didn't see this anywhere. I thought I was doing the right thing here. Clearly not.

Don't you think it's pretty rude to scrap a site's content, and then repost it on the very forums administered by the same creator of the website? This forum is more independent nowadays, but has its root in the Reviewing the Kanji (now Kanji Koohii) community. I am still the admin on here.

You don't? The kanji stories are one of the main values of my site. I have been running this site for almost ten years now, and the traffic has been past its peak already. When you scrape content from a site, you are taking value away from the site. The data is not just going into your deck, it's going to find its way elsewhere eventually, and in the end people won't even know where it comes from or even care to know what is "kanji koohii". So while in the short term you think you are helping the community, in the long term you are not helping because you are just precipitating the eventuality of Kanji Koohii closing down.

You're not the first person who is scraping my site, by the way. And you're not the first person making Anki decks with RTK stories.

End of the day it's pretty simple, I just don't want to see the stories scraped from Kanji Koohii reposted on this forum!

I am recovering from rhinoseptoplasty so I'm not in the mood to keep on arguing. I think my position as the developer of Kanji Koohi for nearly ten years now is pretty reasonable. All I'm asking is for such decks to be posted anywhere BUT here. Pretty simple rule to follow.
