I recently found out about the unsolved case of Elisa Lam.
I know this is completely unrelated to the forum but I don't know where to find this information, so maybe you know how to help me
As I don't like to rely on third-part informations like "the autopsy said she was not on antidepressives" I wanted to check the official documents but I've found only the autopsy papers. Do you know if there are other documents available to the public? For example the verbals about the police investigation on the incident spot.
For example in many commenst I read things like "how she was supposed to close the cistern cover by herself? But how they know if it was found closed? Or what suppositions did the police?
Maybe there are some public papers or not? I've not managed to find anyone.

PS: I'm not interested in it because I think it was murdered or abtucted by aliens, I'm just interested to find more about her

I remember when this happened. I actually lived a block away from the cecil hotel from 2007-10. I don't know anything about her, but I know the neighborhood really well. 10 years ago, that whole neighborhood was LAs skid row with homeless people sleeping in tents and boxes on the streets. The Cecil hotel was actually a low income, pay-by-the-week hotel for many years. If you want to get an idea for the neighborhood, check out the wim wenders' film 'million dollar hotel' which is just up the street and even worse than depicted in the film. Of course they are all expensive lofts now - I parked next to a ferarri... But even now, there are lots of homeless walking the streets as skid row just moved a few blocks to the east. I even found hypodermic needles on the street in front of the Cecil. All of these buildings and the neighborhood has a lot of history - and much of in not so good. I don't believe in ghosts or the supernatural, but those buildings might make you think otherwise. Fortunately, the building I lived in used to be a bank, so no ghosts.

Thank you yogert909, I find these informations interesting! I like things like that in general, like abandoned places or the ones you mentioned. I would definitely check the movie you said, I also read the Cecil had other cases of murders :/

About the case I've found this website, which is full of info, photos and even some videos.

Unfortunately there is nothing official except quotations from interviews with policemen and other people involved in the investigation. But there are not official reports, nothing about fingerprints, footprints, interrogations logs and so on. So those data are not accessible to the public? Too bad but I understand it... privacy and so on... but still... :/

TBH if this was made public there would probably be no mystery. I know of a hotel roof near where I live that was supposedly secure. That didn't stop my friends from kicking the door open and having sex on the roof regularly lol.

I think probably the difficulty of getting on the roof and into the tank was overstated. Its possible the cap was just found off the tank and put back on by a worker without even looking in the tank...

I mean do we really expect the hotel to say, "Yeah we are are too cheap for proper maintenance and security checks. Besides we pay our employees crap... why the hell should we expect them to do their jobs properly?"

If you like abandoned places, you should check out Detroit! (I used to live there too - but in the suburbs) I just saw this video today which you might find interesting.

Not that everywhere I live is messed up like that. I currently live on a tree lined street in a beautiful bedroom community.

Another of my favorities is Bionerd's youtube channel, with their video of Cernobyl. Obviously I don't like what happened there but I like to see the abandoned schools, the desolation and so on. I know, not very kawaii asd Pls CureDolly if you're reading don't judge me <3 (just kidding baka me)

I think the same, but what interest me the most are the details about the police investigation. For example if they checked for fingerprints, but also why they speed-up the elevator's video, and why a section of the video is missing? Do they checked if the alarm does effectively work? Also in the forum I linked there is the report of a person who was there the days immediately following Elisa Lam's missing. He posted the image of his hotel reservation and he posted a photo where it was at the roof ot the hotel with his brother. He said it was very easy to access the roof, and there were even beer bottles. Why was the roof so easily accessible even if there was an investigation on?
Also her tumblr account continued to post images even after her death. If I understand right tumblr allows to decide the date when the image will be posted so probably she did this, but it's still a detail police must check. Do they check for IP to see if someone logged on her tumblr account?

Probably because they knew you could solve the case .

Just one little thing to add. In China when kids have mental illnesses/learning disabilities the parents make sure to keep these things hidden to avoid discrimination. OTOH in Canada, there is a lot of help available for people like that. They get more resources than ordinary students. They face no discrimination based on their condition in the educational system. Even so, a common issue here is that many Chinese parents refuse to get their child tested after showing signs of mental illnesses/learning disabilities. Its a problem for schools here, as they can only get funding to treat these conditions if they have been diagnosed.

Its very possible that Elisa had more issues than just being bipolar

Asd I'm not that type of person, I don't want to play the little detective online The fact is that today we are so used to media going in depth details about crimes, with reconstructions, hypotesis, details about dna and so on... so I was stupidly thinking "maybe all the official investigation papers are publicly accessible by law" (see the tapes with corrupted politicians intercepted) but evidently it's not the case.

I see what you say about the Chinese approach, for example the sister's twetter account. She shared some info about Elisa before she was found, like "if you see her call the number x" but after she was found the tweets stopped. Also her facebook accound don't ever touched on the question, and when mother and sister were present at a public conference they asked to maintain silence.

Also the gestures she does on the elevator's clip, they remember me of a person I know which suffers from ossessive-compulsive disorder. She is generally "normal", she has not allucinations or episodes where she lost reason, but from time to time she gesticulates and she seems to talk alone just like Elisa did in the video.

Also from her blog posts it is obvious she has big problems even if she tries to hide them by mean of rationalization.

Yeah totally. I watched the video after reading about how 'creepy' it was. Turns out it was all sensationalist garbage. In the video she just looks like a little kid having a ton of fun. There were no signs of her being scared or anything like that.

Actually what I saw looked pretty much EXACTLY the same as kids I've worked with have minor(?) mental disabilities like schizophrenia. It looked like she was playing with her imaginary friend, especially the part where she jumps out of the elevator playfully in an attempt to surprise whoever she expected to be there


I think we have a habit of these days of overanalyzing things while simultaneously having the unreasonable expectation that police do their jobs perfectly. Police may have fudged things a bit but any evidence of foul play seems to be lacking...
