Kanji kentei Level 1

#1
Does anyone on this forum know anyone who actually passed Level 1 (requiring knowledge of 6,000+ kanji)? I was reading about the Kanji kentei and its different levels and was curious about this. Thanks.

You'd probably need a LOT of free time on your hands to become proficient in 6,000 kanji.

I've seen Japanese people list it in their resume, mostly teachers.

KK level 1 is more of a parlor trick than anything else, although I suppose if people like seeing it on a resume that's something.

When I look at level 1 prep books, most of the kanji and words I've never seen before. I'm not saying my kanji knowledge is gigantic, but I do work with pre-modern Japanese and classical Chinese sources.

(Now after saying that, I looked at some of the words on the official site and I did actually know a few or was able to guess their meaning -- 解傭, for instance. 蒐集 is one of those needlessly complex kanji compounds that academics like to use (just use 収集...) There were some others where the meaning was fairly clear from the kanji but I had no idea how to read it. But that's just the reading section, which is the easiest part of the test.)
