I noticed that more and more Japanese apps are showing up in the US store, so I rarely go to the Japanese store anymore.
But are there some Japan-only apps that are worth checking out?
I like playing around with 常用漢字筆順辞典 because it has predictive input.
I would like to get a great Japanese cooking app (ideally free) but haven't found one that I love yet. I used to play around with 3分レシピ but I think it might have switched to a paid model.

I have free and paid but all are a must for a beginner learner:
-Japanese app
-Ankimobile
-Tae Kim app
I have olso others which install and delete, but those 3 are permanent on all devices.
Ohhhhh my bad I miss the part "japanese appstore"....

One very valuable app I found on the Japanese app store (tho this was several years ago) is a free app called "transkun", which is valuable primarily as a shell for the eijiro online translation corpus. There may be other apps that access eijiro but this is the one I've used with good results. A very good resource for mining example sentences and copy pasting them into anki. A quick search tells me its not available in the US app store, maybe its still available in the japanese one?
And while its not a Japan-only app, "Japanese" is of course one of the most valuable and best designed dictionary apps I've used. Even now that I have more comprehensive J-E dictionaries like the kenkyusha etc., "Japanese" is very often my first line of recourse because of how comprehensive and intuitive its search functions are.
