If you're interested in watching western shows in Japanese, there's a ton of slice-of-life/sitcom type shows like iCarly, (new) Beverly Hills 90210, etc etc, that are dubbed into Japanese and can be found if you can get access to Japanese broadcasts. NTKTV is one option, a little pricey. Some stuff can be viewed for free if you are on the web in Japan or appear to be with a proxy server, but a lot of the better shows are only going to be available with a subscription. In any case look for 海外ドラマ, a category that includes pretty much all scripted fiction television shows. A lot of American and British shows are dubbed into Japanese.
I find them incredibly easy to follow compared to actual Japanese dramas, maybe because I know the formulas or maybe because the ones which are easily found for free are pretty simple to understand. On the one hand there's a reason I don't watch those shows in English and the plot doesn't get better with translation.... but on the other hand, (most) American television is so episodic that you can easily drop in for one episode and not be troubled by not knowing the backstory.

Well put. This is exactly why I specifically recommended English shows dubbed in Japanese as opposed to just watching your favorite anime or Japanese drama with the English subtitles turned off. I don't know why, but I always seem to understand the native English shows more than the Japanese ones, regardless of familiarity.
