There's some people that within a couple of seconds show the card if they don't know it. I've always took as long as I needed. I've been wondering lately if it's really worth taking as long as you want. I've been thinking lately maybe if you can't answer a card within a couple of seconds It's probably better just to relearn it. This would make reviews a lot faster since sometimes I spend 30+ seconds trying to think about what a card means, which sometimes leads to me getting distracted. What are your guy's thoughts? Do you give yourself a certain amount of time to answer a card?

I mentioned in another topic that I only spend like 5-10 seconds max on a single review. It pretty much means that you don't know the content that well in my opinion.
For kanji I might take longer since I'm trying to write them down as I review them, but might step down from doing so as they take much longer to review...

I average under 2 seconds. Max is ~5 seconds, I guess.

Considering I usually review while on my lunch break, and I'm using full sentences with the target kanji colored/highlighted, I don't worry about how long each card took. One card might take longer because I wasn't actually looking at it while I chased a stubborn bit around my bowl with the chopsticks or something. I tend to average about 30 seconds per card that way. If I review while not doing something else, I tend to go at least twice as fast.

If you answer this without specifying what kind of card the answer is meaningless. Anyone can answer simple vocab cards fast.

Using a metronome vocab cards take 1-2* seconds for me. I agree with Ikore that long thinking times indicate poor recall, but more important than that is just the fact that if I'm strict with myself I can often fail a card and bring it back to it's previous maturity in less review time than I would spend straining for the answer.
Like six8ten said though, if you do your reviews while doing something else it's obviously quite different.
* There are exceptions for really long words for which I allow myself an extra beat.
Edit: I feel honour bound to mention that I haven't actually used anki for a while because Japanese isn't such a big priority for me right now.

I give myself on average a couple of seconds. Unless I feel like the answer is on the tip of my tongue.. then I drag it out. This tip of the tongue feeling doesn't happen very often however. Maybe not even every session I study. I like to keep the cards going fast or it gets boring and I stop concentrating.
And as others have said - if you don't know it quickly you don't know it well enough. Well, if you get it right no matter the amount of time I suppose you do know it but usually if I have to give myself extra time I end up giving up anyway. I just waste more time trying to remember.
