This weekend you can buy anime games (mostly visual novels) on Steam cheaper than usual. The good point is that you can play some of them in Japanese (unfortunately most of the time they only offer voice or subtitles in Japanese but not both), so they could be useful as a learning resource.

Let me know if you reccomend any of them. I'm still watching YouTube videos to decide which one to buy.

I really like "Reccetear: An Item Shop's Tale". It's cute, a little quirky, mixes playing various adventurers in the dungeon with the primary game play of running a shop that sells equipment to adventurers. There's a lot of voice, but it's not fully voiced. It is an older game, but there's nothing terrible.

"Chantelise: A Tale of Two Sisters" is okay, it's a lot more fun with a controller - it's awkward to fight without it. The kind of cardboard-cutout look to things in the game stands out a bit, and you do spend a lot of time in largely language-free combat. There's a little bit of voice but mostly you're reading.

99 Spirits and Planetarian are on my wishlist already, maybe I'll take advantage of this sale to finally pick them up.

I have King of Fighters, but it's pretty difficult to master the combos. There is a training mode for learning to execute them but some of them it seems like I simply can't do. There's a lot more dialogue than you might expect- there's a verbal exchange at the beginning of every match, and in the story mode there are huge walls of text with matching voiceover. I don't think you can pause, slow, or repeat anything except by playing the same section again. Probably best for people who have already mastered at least one fighting game and have decent listening comprehension at natural speeds.

Fairy Bloom Freesia is really good. So is Long Live the Queen, but it's not actually a Japanese game.

I second Recettear, very refreshing and a unique gameplay experience. I couldn't let go of it for at least a few days.

So far, I've only played 'Ys Origin' which is only available in English. Highly recommend it though, as a game.

Recettear is fun, so that's good to get (already had it).

I snagged a couple others, but haven't actually played them yet; those are already listed here though.
