HP Scanner OCR to create Searchable PDF documents with Kanji

#1
Hello,

I have some documentation from my work that is in Japanese written many years ago, and I want to scan it into PDFs that are searchable. Can anyone tell me of a good quality Scanner that can accurately scan the papers and perform OCR to create searchable PDF or RTF documents for us? We are interested in a industry standard scanner, so price is not a issue as it will be used by the company.

Here is a whitepaper of a software that works, but I dont think it supports Kanji or comes with the scanner when you purchase it:

Any ideas?

I don't think the scanners actually have the OCR software "built-in," you have to install it separately on your PC/Mac. ABBYY FineReader or Readiris I.R.I.S. are two good commercial OCR products, so just buy any good scanner and one of the software and you're good to go. Alternatively, there's also a Japanese-made program called RealReader which also has a free version.

KanjiTomo is free and works in Java and people here have reported using it to OCR high-quality scanned manga, so it has to work reasonably well.
