Hello, all! Recently I have found my old DS Lite and was thinking I might buy some Japanese games for it, since it is region free. I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions? I read online that 二ノ国 is a good one. I prefer games with adequate dialog (I like to get in as much reading practice as I can), but if you know of a game that is quite entertaining, even without much dialog, please recommend it!

I was trying to remember the games I used to play on there (it's been 5 years or so and since then my mom has taken the games for her own use), but I remember Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Mario, DBZ and Zelda games.

Those might help, although some are focused on kanji games. Still, it's not bad to have a few kanji games for a challenge if you're intermediate+.

Anyway, 二の国 is very good, especially if you like Ghibli movies. If you're a beginner Little Charo is good.

Sloane to MacHale no Nazo no Story (スローンとマクヘールの謎の物語) is good if you like text-based mysteries. Oh, and I've heard good things about the 逆転裁判 (Phoenix Wright) series.

ウィッシュルーム 天使の記憶 is good if you like mystery/puzzle games.

夢をかなえるゾウ is very funny, and nice for exposure to Kansai dialect.

Love Plus is good for everyday conversations, but it might make you feel like a pervert.^^;

9時間9人9の扉 is supposed to be good if you like horror.

If you're a fan of the anime/novel series they are based on, the 狼と香辛料 games and the 涼宮ハルヒの直列 game is dialogue heavy and voiced. There are some other anime-based DS games out there which are dialogue based & voiced as well.

A good thing to try would be playing some games that you've already completed in English.

Level-wise I am around N3. But I like to challenge myself; I learn better that way.

Glad it helped! 夢をかなえるゾウ was based on a novel, and also has a drama series adaptation. I haven't checked them out, but it might be fun to do if you end up liking the game.
