Well, since this is a Japanese forum, the last movie I saw was "Sweet Rain - 死神の制度".

You can see a trailer for it here:

I thought it was pretty good, maybe 8/10. It is based on the book by 伊坂 幸太郎 which I also liked.

japanese movies, western movies, whatever you like.

Finished watching "Magnolia" some minutes ago. 9/10.
I actually had to do some research and rewatch some parts to understand it better.

coherence(2013) - "On the night of an astronomical anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events."

very good low-budget sci-fi/drama. sometimes it's a bit too didactic and camerawork can be irritating, but as a whole it's original and engaging.

Confessions (2010)

I'm pretty sure there is more slo-mo than normal speed in this movie. Fun watch nonetheless, with a satisfying ending. Visually very nice too. Not the masterpiece I kept hearing about though.

7/10

Lesson of the Evil (2012)

Starts off okay. Then degenerates into a boring mess of cheap shock and gore. The last 30 minutes in particular are excruciatingly dumb. A shame really. I usually like Takesi Miike, and I love Yusuke Kishi.

3/10

Crows Zero (2007)

The best dumb movie I've seen in a while. Or was it the dumbest best movie ? I'm not sure. Anyway, a fun little gem. Perfect with a pizza on a Saturday night.

Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift (2005) hehe yea, i know...I was in the mood for something dumb.
4/10

Blue Jasmine (2013) Excellent performances and great characters.
9.5/10

Grand Budapest Hotel (2013) What can I say... Wes Anderson
8/10

Le Mans (1971) The best of the 70's: great looking cars, austere thoughtful shoots, and Steve McQueen.
7/10

Maidentrip (2013) Interesting girl.
8/10

same here. i found it neither funny nor visceral, just silly. maybe it could've worked as a cartoon. luckily, miike has a bunch of good genre films from 90's, so i can always go back to that.

The positions here are mostly American movies. Given that Hollywood is making them in massive quantities that doesn’t come as a surprise. But where are the movies that are not made in America?

People generally know that there would be no "The Assassin" if there wasn’t "La Femme Nikita" by Luc Besson, there would be no "Sliding Doors" if there wasn’t "Przypadek" by Krzysztof Kieślowski, and there would be no "The Magnificent Seven" if there wasn't "七人の侍" by 黒澤明.

So, where are these good non-Hollywood movies?

BTW, I enjoyed "Grand Budapest Hotel" maybe in part because it was a collaborative production...

Well, I have seen the non-US movies you mentioned, but they weren't the last movie I saw, so they don't fit the topic.

Last movie I saw was Guardians of the Galaxy (it's not even out here yet, I managed to get lucky and was able to see it on a US base). 9/10. Very fun.

Prior to that, I've recently re-watched my DVDs of the old Universal Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, and Young Frankenstein. Gearing up for Halloween, basically, and the old black and white style of these movies always helps get me in the mood.

La Femme Nikita is a Canadian tv series. Besson's movie is simply Nikita Smile

Thought it was great, though I think the ending undermined the story it was trying to tell. Still, 9/10

Also, the Evangelion movies have been on TV every Friday night for the last three weeks. The first two were good but the third one was not.

For a moment I thought I relied on IMDb too much, but after looking at the DVD I own...

Nice try... Smile

It must be the title for the english release then. It's the first time I see it. "La Femme Nikita" sounds very awkward in french.

And the original theatrical poster agrees !

There is a tv series based on the movie though, but I'm not so sure what it's worth... I'm kinda curious now...

edit : Holy sh*t, there are actually 2 tv series based on the movie...

I've just finished re-watching 'Fusa' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106982/ by Kon Ichikawa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kon_Ichikawa.
He's truely an artist, he never disappoints.

Amaterasu bless his soul!
The movie I watched yesterday:
Teacher and Three Children
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1149594/
The original title:
『石内尋常高等小学校 花は散れども』(いしうちじんじょうこうとうしょうがっこう はなはちれども)
It's a tragic comedy, like life itself.

I re-watched another movie today.
To put it in nutshell: it's about a powerful monkey who built a golden tea-room for himself.
It's about his teacher, too, whose wisdom and beauty are not enough.

The movie: Rikyu 利休
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikyu_%28film%29
by another dead great master:
Hiroshi Teshigahara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshi_Teshigahara

Of course. it is not DEATH that made them all great.

First thing in the morning, I suddenly got this urge to rewatch a movie by another dead GREAT MASTER who somehow managed to make films in the USSR - young people may not even know what the USSR was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union.

The movie:
Спорт, спорт, спорт (Sport, sport, sport)
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D0%...1%80%D1%82
The dead great master:
Элем Климов, Elem Klimov
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elem_Klimov

The film is somewhat funny, somewhat sad, it makes you feel better. It's definitely a very good movie to watch first thing in the morning. Although it's raining, you'll feel like singing, definitely.
