MEXT Computer Science?

#1
So I've been looking around and I saw that the University of Tokyo has a computer science undergrad program, however, this doesn't seem to show up under the fields you can choose from in the MEXT undergrad program. Is Computer Science not a choice or am I missing something? Also, how hard is it to get into the University of Tokyo through MEXT? And can I start the application process during my senior year of highschool?

Email your local Embassy/Consulate about the "computer science" but looking at http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/koutou/ryug...346539.htm

I think the major is included under the "Natural Sciences." Realize that "Computer Science" isn't always included under the department you would think in Japanese schools. I've seen the department included under "Electrical Engineering" departments sometimes. I'm pretty sure the field is covered though.

It sounds like MEXT students have to pass the school examinations in addition to the exams that you will be taking to receive the MEXT scholarship.

You might have to wait till after your senior year to be able to apply for the MEXT. Read the info for the scholarship at your local Consulate/Embassy. It'll mention by what date you need to be graduated to qualify for the scholarship.

For almost any question regarding MEXT scholarships, the answer has to be to contact your consulate -- the system is different based on what country you're applying from. If you're from the US there are multiple consulates so you'll want to find the one that is in charge of your region (you can ask by calling or online).
