Quote:The lesson I take away from reading all these posts is that, if you like an Anki deck, download it to your own computer right away so you've got it forever. That's a sensible conclusion! I saved a bunch of decent decks in my Google drive and have some others laying around on different computers (I didn't want them taking up space on Ankiweb and making full syncs take forever). I am so glad I did that and would advise you do the same.

But I seriously feel bad for people who came later and are left in the dust to reinvent the wheel, or just settle for inferior decks because of that. I love the kanji deck I am using, and the fact it is no longer available on anki makes me sad. ANKI purge was like burning books, made me angry.

Forgive me if this is an obvious question. When I added the deck to Anki and started to review the cards the ordering of the cards was based on the due date. Is this deck supposed to be ordered by frequency order field instead? If so, what is the best way of achieving this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Is this deck supposed to be ordered by frequency order field instead? If so, what is the best way of achieving this?Change the "Sort Field" to "Frequency Order" (click the "Fields..." button in the middle, pick Frequency Order and check the option "Sort by this field in the browser") and then click on the "Sort Field" tab to sort it in ascending order.
Thanks!
After that, select all cards (ctrl+a), Edit->Reposition..., then just press OK on the box that shows up (the default setting should already be like this: "start position" 0, "step" 1, "shift position of existing cards" checked, "randomize order" unchecked).
this should make the due date the same as the frequency order, i think.

Perfect. Thanks very much!

Riddian Wrote:Is this deck supposed to be ordered by frequency order field instead? No the deck is supposed to be ordered by 'due date'. The reason for this is because I used morphman to re-order the cards into the optimal order for easy learning. If you order the cards by word frequency you may find the deck difficult unless you have a solid Japanese level.

Understood. Thanks very much for explaining that! Think I'll reorder my deck by due date then. I'll also look into Morphman as I'd like to know how exactly Morphman grades easiness.
Anyway, thanks very much for creating and sharing this great deck!

Riddian Wrote:I'll also look into Morphman as I'd like to know how exactly Morphman grades easiness. This was useful in understanding: http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Morph_Man...culated.3F In summary, it uses a mathematical function that accepts a sentence and your current set of 'known' words, and outputs a number. It applies this function to each sentence in the deck, and then sorts the sentences according to the resulting function value.
Also, if you extend Nayr182's model in Anki to include fields listed in http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Morph_Man#How_to_use_it under "Default Morph Man 3 fields" and rerun Morphman, it will populate those fields with some useful information, including the number it calculated for the sentence in "morphManIndex".
If you're experimenting with it, it's useful to create a dummy Anki account on your computer, add just the deck, and experiment with Morphman there, so you can see exactly what it's doing without worrying about what other words it's found in your other decks. There's many different ways you can imagine optimizing a deck, let me know if you're interested in this and I can share some more details.

彼の携帯にメッセージを送った。 is the first card due, "Due" value is 12995.
地方行政の為の選挙が行われる。has a "Due" value of 12997, and sits near the beginning of the deck (many cards have the same "Due" value)
来週から学校が始まる。 is the very last card, due 89406.
ハムのサラダを作った。, 娘は六年生です。, 私は学部の二年生です。, 彼女は水泳が上手だ。, etc. are also near the end of the deck.
Are the numbers above correct? Or probably I'm completely misunderstanding something?

Nayr182 Wrote:Well the original deck that I uploaded was in the correct order. I cant say the same for any of the other download links as I haven't used them.Ah, okay. I thought maybe I was misunderstanding something because I don't know too much about Anki. Anyway, v2.5 on the first post of this thread seems to have some random ordering that doesn't make sense. I also have an older v2.0 copy, where the ordering is just the frequency order. I guess the original deck was sorted in a way that these two aren't.
Anyway, sorry for the confusion. i simply suspended all cards and have been unsuspending them one by one as i see fit, which works fine for me, so the ordering isn't an issue.

Thank you dark sir.I enjoyed reading about sentence diagramming and dependencies. I'm interested to see if they're helpful for me in Anki (as an intermediate Japanese learner). I'm also interested to see if this is something beginners would find useful.

Do you like Pastebin? If you're not familiar with it, you might recognize it by its URLs, they usually look really random. You can't customize the http://pastebin.com/ URLs, though, unlike TinyURL.

@Nayr
I started your 5k deck some time ago and I will finish it later this year. Then I will need new study material. Since I really like your deck, I was wondering if there might be some original work coming up some time in autumn? ;-)
Anyway, keep up the good work.

Expand your mind beyond a mere anki deck. What I am working on is a complete Japanese learning system. To enable me to achieve what I want to achieve, entirely new tools have had to literally be invented and coded from scratch.
It’s going to be way more super-high quality that Core5000.
Unfortunately I don't have a ETA at this stage, but as soon as I have more information Ill post it.

Thank you very much for the information. I must say, I am surprised that you put even your studies aside to create this revolutionary Japanese learning system.
Thank you even more for devoting yourself to this project. I really hope it helps you to achieve your goals (and if it helps others, e.g. myself, as well then that will be a nice side effect ;-).

If so, it could be used for other languages as well. I mean, if there's a sentence/word/something in English and in Japanese, I could translate it to Finnish and record the audio for it, then anyone who understands either Japanese or English could use it to learn Finnish.
Maybe matching the sentences in three completely unrelated languages will prove to be impossible, who knows. That's something I can't tell for sure before your product is finished and I get to see it.
What do you say, would you allow your work to be used that way?

Can someone update me - I haven't visited the tread quite some time, is the new project Nayr was talking about after core 5000 is out?
