I just tried out LINE 漫画. It has a free daily 連載, and you can buy manga for convenience store kind of prices. All the pages are broken down into cells for easy smartphone reading.

I think it's relatively new, but they have quite a large library so far. I'm reading the first volume of 進撃の巨人, which is part of the free 連載 this week.

LOL. What? I think I've downloaded thousands of apps from that page and nothing bad has ever happened.

Uhh, no. This site is pretty safe. I have downloaded several KR and JP games from this site and have had no problems. I have seen those kind of popups on a lot of sites. Just press the back arrow and it gone, your phone is not infected or has a virus. That's how they get you to press their links.

Weird, I followed the link from my computer and it was fine. When I followed the link and clicked "generate download link" from my phone it brought me to some spam webpage about my phone being infected with a virus. (I was going too fast and thought it would just link me to the Play Store or something directly from my phone). Anyway, yeah, looks legit :-)

So even after installing the app following the link above and registering a LINE account, it says that I can't use the LINE MANGA app in my country :-( Any way around that?

Darn, so even if I download it I likely won't be able to use it?

I had the GPS off when I opened it and it said it couldn't confirm I was in Japan. When I turned it on, it worked. There are probably ways to spoof your location, but you still need to login with a LINE account, and that requires confirmation using a code sent via SMS to what I assume has to be a Japanese number.

I know there are complicated publishing contracts and what not, but it's kind of stupid that things are still so limited like this in 2014. I'm more likely to buy from the massive selection of ¥105 manga in Book Off here, but in the UK I probably would've bought a lot of the ¥400 ones they have on LINE Manga.

You can spoof the GPS using the developer options, but the SMS thing and possibly even the credit card are going to trip most people up.

EDIT: You can get a lot of manga from Amazon Japan for the kindle.

What about if you use a VPN?

Edit: Oh, never mind. It seems that's not the problem, a Japanese phone number is.
