Studying Osakaben, or Kansaiben.

#1
Im searching for resources to study the Osaka dialect. Everytime i run into it, it throws me off. I've found a couple sites that explain the differences between general japanese and this dialect, but I'm looking for something to help ingrain it in my mind. Something like an osaka ben SRS deck.

How have you guys handled the different dialects?

Live in the area.

I lived in Osaka for a year. You won't hear everything listed in books or videos about Kansai-ben/Osaka-ben/Kobe-ben. Young folk only use a few things in my experience. The people that speak it thickly are usually people in the rural and/or old people.

EDIT: If you will be living in Osaka, you don't need to know the dialect to survive there, I can assure you. Most people will speak standard (Tokyo) Japanese.

http://www.kansaiben.com/ is a useful resource. Unless you plan on living there and turning into an Osaka native, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Picking up the upside-down accent and colloquialisms nobody outside of Osaka will understand won't do you much use. You'll learn what non-Osakan Japanese people know through TV and manga. Pretty much any comedy show has someone from Kansai speaking a watered-down dialect.

I really want this book now. It looks hilarious. Also, I'm planning a 2 month trip to kansai homestaying so it would actually be very useful. I told a Japanese person I was going to Kansai on my first trip to Japan with my broken Japanese and he thought I was a bit mad, but it has a lot of history and interesting culture so it is way above the Tokyo area on my list of places I want to go.
