I noticed that with T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan, Japan is one of the countries covered for unlimited text and data. Has anyone had experience with this plan in Japan? I would like to know, positive or negative.

Keep in mind that 4G may not be available.
If you are visiting for a little then you might want to check into mobile wifi spot and see if the price is better for that.

Yep, extensive experience. Anyone who doesn't have T-Mobile now for int'l is crazy - zero roaming charges pretty much worldwide, no text message charges, and $0.20 per minute calling. I wouldn't bother with a Japanese cell phone except I need one for incoming calls.
It's very slow, but fast enough to use Google Maps, text people, check email (slowly), etc. Pretty much all you need - highly recommend. Let me know if you have any questions.
