Japanese core 2k/6k/10k

#1
Hi Guys,

Are core 2k/6k/10k good for vocab/sentences?

Also I don't understand should I start with 2k and then do 6k and 10k or 10k is like 2k+6k+ some more cards?

Right know I've got:

Kanji deck (that I've made)
JLPT N5/N4 vocab
Minna no nihongo 2 vocab
JLUP sentence deck

Am I overdoing it?

Which decks should I focus more on?

Also how do you use the core 2k deck? Do you just focus on picking up the specific vocabulary that is highlighted in the sentence, or to pick up the entire sentence?

Use this deck imo:

Some people worry just about the individual piece of vocab, others want to understand the whole sentence. The benefit of this deck is that it's been ordered to be as close to i+1 as possible ( only one new piece of information per card ) whereas the typical core order can potentially have a few new pieces of vocab per card, making them much more difficult to get through at first.

You can also sort by core order if you prefer, which makes it easy to do just the 2k then 6k if you want. If you're focusing on just the word, then the i+1 is less important, but I prefer to understand the context the word is in as well.

As for whether you're overdoing it, you're definitely going to see some overlap, if you do, I'd just remove redundant cards from one deck or another.

I personally prefer the 10k deck, and then will move onto trying to mine native material, and then just have a utility deck for random stuff I come across as well as my RTK deck.

10k is a superset of 6k which is a superset of 2k. As suggested above, just grab a combined deck.

It doesn't matter. If you see a word, and you recognize it from one of your other decks, just press "Del" and move on. Core 10k will include nearly anything from other beginner material, but the ordering is just terrible. It's pretty silly to learn 企業 in your first 500 words, while common words like 恩人 towards the very end.

The grammar is trivial, you'll get very little from it if you've already been through a textbook or two.

I recommend the deck titled "Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocabulary". (2K is part of 6K). Make sure you get the audio files for it from Nukemarine's stickied thread.

Core is best used with the sentences + audio. I just use it as reading practice (the question is the sentence, the answer is reading it correctly and knowing what it means - I don't actually use the English translation, it isn't even in the answer; but I do study the sentences before I start reviewing them, look up every word that isn't clear, etc.). But, with this deck, you also have the option to use it in many different ways (for vocab only, clozed deleted version, speech recognition, etc.).

There isn't a lot of complex grammar, but it's still useful in that regard as well. There's no such thing as seeing a sentence pattern too many times. If you see it the hundredth time, it still helps.
