I have been interested for a while in developing and designing educational games (I prefer the euphemism 'interactive learning experience') that can be used for Japanese language study. In full disclosure of my background, I have a B.A. and Ph.D. in biochemistry and I currently work in the field of microbial engineering. So...
To get my feet wet I put together a simple word search game. It does not test an extensive list of vocabulary. In fact it only has 96 total words. But it does feature some nice water-colorized images based on photos I took in Japan in 2010!
You are presented with a list of words written in Japanese and you have to find the English equivalent hidden in the game board above the word list.
Anyway, the app is available for free on the iTunes store for iPad:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ri-ben-y...d870007104
For anyone wondering, I built the app using GameSalad.
Finally, I have some ideas for more ambitious interactive learning experiences. I'm not ready to disclose those ideas publicly. However, anyone with a strong and serious interest in developing educational software for Japanese language learning should send me an email.
