I just got the three sets of Japanese vocab from vocabulearn and they appear pretty good right from the start. Each level has around 2000 words and are spoken slowly and clearly on CDs. It's just a vocab builder but is the best vocab builder that i've seen. I like long spaces between words to repeat slowly to myself and the spaces on these CDs are set at a vary nice pace.
I only got them a few days ago and I have already assesed where my gaps are so I know where to focus. Each level is split into four CDs, these being nouns, adjectives/adverbs, expressions and verbs. It became immediately apparent that my weakest area was verbs and adj/adv whereas my nouns and expressions are pretty good. I never realised this before so this quick self-assesment has been vital.
It also comes with a little book that lists all the vocab which is thankfully written in kanji, so it is easily possible to use this to build knowledge of readings with vocab that you've already absorbed.
