500 frames and counting! ROOOOARRRR!!!

Yeah I'm probably going faster than optimal myself... my review rate certainly isn't best. (I'm just impatient >_>)

Quote:Maybe i'm taking too much time making up stories and making them alive (also the SRS reviewing and pseudo text mining (from textbooks like ASSIMIL and related) takes A LOOOOOT of time !!!).
This sounds like exactly what you SHOULD be doing. Heisig's ramblings in the book really really stresses making vivid mental images. I try to do this but sometimes I get a little sloppy, which leads to lots of forgetting, and lots of mixing up of similar keywords or kanji. Strong foundations make for strong houses and all that.

Quote:As far as I've noticed a lot of the "sprinters" quit when they miss reviews for a couple of days and are confronted with a thousand or more due cards in Anki.
I'm worried that will happen to me down the line, I try to keep my reviews manageable but I can definitely seen them piling up later on. If I do end up getting swamped by thousands of reviews I'm gonna try my hardest not to quit though, all about being stubborn >:D

I'm a sprinter. I made it and my reviews have died down to manageable proportions, but I definitely agree that it was a close call. Had I missed a day, like, ever, it's very likely I'd have quit.

I finally got there again yesterday. : ) I feel so much better about redoing RTK now, I'd been getting through it so slowly it felt like I'd never manage to finish it again. Now I'm sure I'll get there, just have to keep going. 皆さん、がんばって!

I may be sprinting, but then again, I have lot of free time on my hands and have my own method of reviewing: I go through the chapter quickly (or get to around 30 if the chapter's too long), making up quick images. Immediately after, I practice these new Kanji to see which one requires more time spent to study, and where exactly I have problems with said Kanji (Keyword? Primitives? Etc.).

I do that for every failed Kanji. Sometimes, problems arise only later (such as when a second Kanji with similar meaning arises). Sometimes, I fail a few times in a row and either have to study it longer, completely change my image, or simply force it through my head. And up until now, it has worked me wonderfully.

Not sure if I posted in this thread before on my first attempt through RTK, but I'm at 640 something right now. Feels good that I can write with a bit more confidence right now. Still not too comfortable looking in the wild. Not sure it it's normal around this point.

I don't really remember how insecure I felt at that point - but I can tell you that now that I'm on kanji 1756 it feels pretty natural writing/seeing kanji. Don't worry.

Hi guys, I'm new here. よろしくお願いします!
I started with RTK at Friday last week and hit the 1/4th mark too yesterday.
I have been going at a pace of 100 Kanji per day for the last 5 days but from Monday I start in work again. From then I'll continue probably at a pace of 10 per day. Until easter, when I will, of course, step up the game significantly.

You'll probably see me around here.

This is my third try at RtK. Both previous attempts saw me quit somewhere in the 100-200 range, but in early February I started up again, and a couple days ago I finally surpassed the 500 mark. No question about it, I am going all the way this time. I'm not stressing about how fast I go through the lessons, so it might take me till 2014 to actually finish, haha, but I'm not stressing about that. Just gonna keep reviewing every day and take things one kanji at a time.

*roooaaarrr!*

Congrats on comming this far, rainwatercoyote.

I found out I have no chance what so ever in proceeding as fast as I wished at first. I'm in the military so after work there are people all around me, making it impossible to sit down for hours to concentrate. Socializing comes first. And I'm often completely exhausted after service, leaving it impossible to study.

I'm struggling with even completing my several hundred reviews, so my retention rate isn't exactly very good right now.

For over a month I wasn't adding cards because of the amount of work I had. I was completely exhausted and pretty much watched anime whenever I got home.

It's been a little less than 3 months since I started RtK, but I finally got through my 500th kanji a couple minutes ago. Really feels great to be over the 500 hump.

I started 17 days ago and I've just finished lesson 19 of the 6th edition. That puts me at 547, just 3 shy of 25%. It's going well so far and I'm usually at about 82% on my reviews.

If I can keep up my schedule, I'll be halfway through next Wednesday.

Have fun fellas/gals.
I wanted to learn Japanese as a new year resolution and got done with RTK1+joyou two days ago.

If you get tired from learning new cards, at least do reviews so you don't forget things.
Cheers.

Hit the 500 hundred mark about 30 seconds ago after 35 kanji today so far! It's been 12 days! Onwards to 1000!
Oh, and ROOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRR!!!

I have been stopping/starting RTK for a few years but finally decided to stick with it and finally hit 500 frames!

When I started reviewing again after a two months break I was actually quite surprised how many Kanji I still could remember. Of the 680 I learned in February, I only had to relearn 120. And with my reviews being few and retention rate being high this week I've decided to continue from where I left off.
Harr harr harr. Full speed ahead! Yarr!

Very nice, mimiroru. I just hit 817, passing the 40% mark. I got so motivated that I think I'll comprise another 60 today.

Just reached 500 cards. This is my third attempt at RTK1, the first more than a decade ago. (I got up to 840 last time before life intervened) This time, by necessity, I will make it all the way through!

Here's to great success this time around, Timaki! Smile

wooo made it to 500 in ~8 days, next stop 1000!

Got to 500 today, yay!

I've been going for 8 weeks, using AnkiDroid, with 15 new cards per day (the default of 20 turned to be too many). This is my 2nd attempt at RTK; the 1st one was about 7 years ago, without electronics, and I got to 414 back then.

The contributed stories are a great help. Thank you all!
