Explanation needed (4 character idioms)

#1
Stupid question! Can you explain me what is going on here?

at 10:20, when they say the girl is bad with kanji and then they ask she to tell a 4-character idiom. What does this mean? I'm new to kanji so I don't understand what they are asking to she Smile

Thank you! Interesting! But it is something they study at school? And if yes, why they study it? As a mean to reinforce the knowledge of individual kanji? Or to know the compunds themselves?

A lot of them originated from Japanese and/or Chinese classical literatures, especially poems. They are concise, rhythmic, and witty. Therefore you can add an extra layer of flavor to your writing and speaking by using them properly. I love to find out the story behind it whenever I see a good one.
