So I'm confused about the dorms in Nagoya. And well, housing in general.

The period of residency in each residence is limited to 6 months.
What is even the point of having dorm space if it's limited to a single semester?

If the school offers year programs then clearly you can get a place at the dorm. It may mean that the residence contract is for 6 months. I recommend contacting the university to clarify the points.

Also the "required to live with family members" applies to "Public Municipal Housing." Its literally for grad students with family, so obviously the school isn't going to give you a house as a single person.

EDIT: I guess I'll add that you are welcome to find your own apartment or guest house. Just be aware that not all universities may act as guarantor in those situations.

I'm not sure about the thing about having to live with your family. I didn't see that anywhere on the dorm information. EDIT: Found it, that's for public housing, not the "housing for international students". They didn't make their headings very clear, which is confusing.
I think contacting the university for clarification is your best bet. Perhaps ask which dorms you would be eligible for.
