So who's playing Hearthstone ? :)

#76
Congrats! Smile So that's right before the golden diamond thingy that indicates legend rank?

Now I remember I think Reynad was legend, but he lost a lot of legend rank with his F2P Warrior when he was faced with a rank 5 guy and he was explaining why he felt the matchup system wasn't very good in those situations, because of how legend decks are built against one another and not for the meta in the rank 5-1.

So if you enter the Legendary ladder, you can never drop down again to rank 1 ?

PS: What's your experience with friend requests in this game? Do you accept them?

Legend 308! The help text says "You're a legend! Your position in this rank will change with each game." And not just my own games - it's been oscillating between 307 and 311 while I write this post.

I've received two friend requests and accepted both... no idea who they are (there's been no communication), based on their ranks and patterns it seems like I've probably met them in Arena and Ranked respectively. There doesn't seem to be a way to mute the "friend online" sound without muting everything, so I might unfriend them for that (after seeing if the one who plays a lot of Ranked makes Legend, of course - he's currently rank 2).

Still playing the same deck, except I took out the Imp Masters for Argent Squires. Defenders of Argus might also have to go - The Black Knight seems to be getting more popular (also, Big Game Hunter every single time I've Argused Leeroy), plus it sucks when four out of your six 4 drops are unplayable without specific conditions (and I pretty much have to hold one Keeper of the Grove back for Cairne).

Got 7-3 yesterday on a Mage, my personal best too Smile

Pretty sick draw: 2 Polymorphs, 3 Fireballs, 1 Pyroblast, 1 Blizzard, 1 Flamestrike, 1 Cone of Cold, 1 Mirror Entity. For card draw: 2 Acolytes of Pain, 1 Novice Engineer, 1 Gnomish Inventor, 1 Arcane Intellect.

I loss twice vs Hunter and one to a Mage, I guess the deck was a little spell heavy and higher on the mana curve so my early game wasn't very strong.

PS: my rewards were 1 Pack, 160 Gold, 25 Dust. It seems good but Arena is so random. I had a 1-3 run earlier on a Warlock. I'm practicing on NA region for now. If I ever do this on my main account I guess I won't bother with certain heroes. I used AntiGrav1ty's spreadsheet for the drafting.

Congrats! I haven't managed to repeat a 7:3, although I got a 8:3 Wink. I was so proud I made a photo (you aks, why I did't make a screenshot instead? I have no idea...):

Sadly the best this last week was a 5:3. And now I am lacking the funds to try again. I will probably do some quests until I have enough again. In regards to that ranking: I am very fond of paladins and shamans, but I really like hunters too as you know. But the card evaluation is very nice, thanks for sharing. I might have a look at this when next I play arena.

Yet another unspoken rule: if you silence a minion after playing Savage Roar, the minion retains the +2 attack (on the other hand, if you mess up and play Savage Roar before playing a charge minion, you lose out on the bonus on that minion). This was relevant when my opponent put a Hunter's mark on my Gadgetzan Auctioneer and followed it up with an Explosive Trap.

I use Arena Mastery to track my arenas. Their deck builder uses AntiGrav1ty's tier list, which is nice. Based on my stats, Priest and Warlock are by far the weakest heroes - or at least, they tend to get the weakest players (I've never played as either of them in Arena myself).

Also, Arena Value, mentioned earlier in this thread, uses an outdated version of Trump's list. Most notably, it's missing Mage (or, well, using whatever non-Trump source they use for everything but Druid and neutrals). The up-to-date list is here.

Damn it, another 7-3 with Shaman. Getting a bit more confident but still not sure I wanna spend my gold on Arena on my main account... hmmm.

I don't know why for some reason I still prefer Ranked even if it's very frustrating at times... something about the pressure to win for better rewards, to me it doesn't feel quite the same.

Wait.. I missed that earlier. What does it do? Helps you make picks?

Yes; it tells you which tier each card is on for your class, letting you compare the three cards side-by-side.

Fun fact: If you use Thoughtsteal and get Lord Jaraxxus and play him, you will get experience for the warlock at the end. As for arena I am at constant 5:3 the last three matches...

How are you guys doing? Still playing? I am, even though a little less than before. I try to complete all my quests and do an arena run once in a while. I was lucky enough to get another two legendaries: Captain Greenskin and Nozdormu, both are quite fun to play around with. Nozdormu is really my kind of card, because I am almost always quite fast with my round, while my opponents tend to take forever. Today I decided to collect 1000g so that I can open 10 decks in a row. This will take a while however. I am really digging the collection part of the game, I love getting new cards and then testing them in my decks.

I stopped playing early April and picked up Diablo II again =)

The game is good. But it is also essentially a 100% PvP game. So the downside with these games is it's very hard to rank people accurately. There is no linear progression as in many other game genres, without AI opponents that can be programmed to present various challenges. Another aspect is I find the community and the discussions around pvp games (as opposed to cooperative games), to be really draining after a while. That's just me though..

edit: with that said, I wish I could experience more than one game at once. I have this bad habit of dropping something altogether when I move from one game to another. I find it difficult somehow to be motivated to play several games on a regular basis, which is a shame. It does make some sense I suppose as games become increasingly complex and there is a wealth of information to deal with if you want to experience the higher level play. For other games, it's the story. I got 80% through Avadon on the iPad, which I really enjoyed, but picking it up again I have to remember the story line, the setup of my characters, the skills...

I am the same. Maybe I will go back, but never two games together, that is too much for me. I have a couple of games and even books, which I start then play or read a lot and then somehow stop right before finishing them. But Diablo 2 is always a good game to go back to.

I love it, brill game. Nice and relaxing but still challenging and competitive.

I'm quite similar to you ファブリス, though probably worse; I never finish a game properly. I remember one month last year, I was playing MGS3, got stuck (when I went back it wasn't even that hard, I was just being lazy) and bought Max Payne, then got stuck in the nightmare level on that (I always fall off the blood trail), bought DMC3 and it glitched, then bought Half-Life and stuck to that, but I was still playing all sorts of other things at the same time. Right now, I'm playing Deus Ex, Hearthstone and Zelda: OoT in an emulator in Japanese (hard). I haven't dropped them but I have slacked for the legitimate reason of exams and the fact that my laptop needs a new fan (it keeps heating up and then switching off).

Aaaand I reinstalled it (for the 3rd time? :p)

I haven't followed up on the GvG launch. Since I don't have many legendaries/epics, I could use some F2P decks based on Nax and GvG. The old "Trump F2P Shaman" is doing ok so far up to rank 14, but I feel like I may hit a brickwall soon since the meta changed with the GvG cards. Do you know any newer F2P decks for shaman or warrior in particular?

For that matter anyone knows if Trump & co. did any new "F2P" runs since GvG ?

On my Shaman I replaced one Ooze with Whirling Zap-o-Matic (3/2 Windfury) mostly because it keeps the opponent busy and it tends to be more useful for me than the Ooze (and works well with Rockbiter / Flametongue Totem).

I also replaced Sunfury with the Annoy-o-Tron (1/2 Taunt, Divine Shield) mostly to gain time early game against Hunter/Zoos however I'm not sure it's a good idea. Thing is I don't really "get" how to get the most of Sunfury.

Damn I wish I recorded my last game!

It was such a cool Mage opponent and a fun game too! Probably not a top tier meta deck but still ... this game happened at rank 11, and I was on a aggro Warrior.

So she cleared the board twice with Doomsayer + Blizzard. The second time I had one Piloted Shredder on the board, so I drop a 2nd Piloted Shredder... board clears and the parachutes drop a 1/2 Haunted Creeper and a Doomsayer :p So my two parachuted minions die too, but the Haunted Creeper gives me a couple 1/1.

Other funsies during the game: she blocked me twice with Ice Block, the second time she triggered the secret by killing her own Mad Scientist.

She holds card for a while so I hold as well... then she tries to burn me down with Sorcerer's Apprentice+ Bloodmage Thalnos (spell damage) + 1x Fire Ball + 2x Ice Lance .. fortunately I was at 22-25 life then (don't remember exactly).

Fortunately with the Nightblades she was down to 2. I was frozen and unable to use my Fiery Axe... and then I top decked my Leper Gnome.

I won but the most satisfying was just to get to play against such a cool deck, a really nice change from all the mech based mage decks Smile

Well, that does sound like a fun game! What cards do you have in your warrior aggro deck? I feel like I should put in more effort to become better, but I only manage one or two games at the moment and the new cards made all my decks off balance (my Japanese is on pause as well). Still, I love the adittion of the new cards. The randomness of goblin shredder etc. deathrattles is a lot of fun, I have seen legendaries drop 3 times already as well as really bad cards. I do think some of the new legendaries are a bit too powerful, but that makes the games against well equiped opponents more challanging, which can be good (though annoying at times). The other day I played against a Hunter, who was gold and whose cards were all(!) gold as well. Crazy.

I found the old Trump "F2P shaman" upgraded with some GvG and Naxx cards did decently well to rank 13. I used Loatheb (legendary from 2nd Naxx wing), Sludge Belchers, Annoy-o-Tron in place of Feral Spirits, Nerubian Eggs. But then I got frustrated against Handlocks, playing long games and then losing to Dr Boom, Rag etc when I run out of Silence and Hexes (basically if handlock has a good draw it's very hard to beat with F2P Shaman I feel).

So then I tried again the old F2P Warrior from Reynad which I find really fun to play. These are the GvG / Naxx replacements I made, v1 and v2. This is still a budget deck, it's supposed to have 2x Frothing Berserkers (rares), and Gorehowl instead of Arcanite. The idea with Piloted Shredder is to not lose too much tempo by having minions stick on the board, that said I'm trying different 3 and 4 drops. The silence is instrumental and won me several games, esp . against Druid. I can't even craft a second one! :p But I think I would go for a second one. They are 4 attack which is good vs Priest, and you still have a decent minion on the board. Yesterday I started experimenting with the 2x Slam. The idea is that it could help remove a taunt, and cycle a card so you don't lose too much momentum, and it can remove early minions. Loatheb won me games too so basically that's the only legendary I have that seems to work here.

I kept track of wins/losses and it was doing 2:1 on a good day, and a little under 1:1 against lots of hunters, but that was before yersterday's nerf to Undertaker. Pretty funny yesterday saw quite a few people still playing Undertaker on turn 1 or 2 Smile

I think that deck has potential to climb more, if you can afford Gorehowl, Frothing Berserkers, ... i'm contemplating doing another 2 Naxx wings to get Deathbite... I might not see Gorehowl in a long while. I'm not sure what are my cheapest options to improve the overall value of the deck atm, I am curious to see how the Slam's will do as I just started them yesterday.

Yeah Shredders are fun Smile Lorewalker Cho is probably the most annoying I've seen out of 2 drops, giving your spells to the opponent, and not being able to remove it from your board.

In a couple days all the legend players are going to climb again... oh dear.

ps: and yes the game is better in moderation, since I re-installed for the third time (cough) I made a point to stop playing whenever I become angry/reactive, and at least a couple hours before bed.

Well bummer had a very frustrating night yesterday. I couldn't get to rank 10 before the reset, so I think my Warrior deck was reaching its limit without better cards.

On the other hand I got my first 8 win arena with a Warlock Smile Got Dr. Boom and was lucky to get to play it at least half the games.

I was wondering what packs to buy. Figure I'll do arena, and spend the gold on classic packs since I still miss many rare/epic/legendary cards, and slowly get dust from the arena GvG packs.

I was at rank 13 this last season, also not my best. I seem to have problems getting there again this time, I wonder whether some decks "get better" once you progress in ranks. Maybe its also just that I like to play all classes and switch between them instead of staying with a class with a good deck.
8 wins, that's nice! I should try arena again sometime soon Smile. Dr. Boom is very good, I haven't had the chance to play him myself, but he is a pain to play against! About the packs: I buy classic in one of 3 decks. I still need a couple of classic rares and epics, but I have even less of the goblins/mechs hence the 1:2.
I haven't put 2 Goblin Shredders in my deck so far, I will try that soon though. I got a second one yesterday. Have you been able to get one of the higher star Shredders yet (the 6 star, which drops a 4 star or the legendary one, which drops another legendary)? I really want to have one of those, though it is somewhat unlikely, that I will get one any time soon.

I don't play much but I'm currently 4-1 in the arena and it feels pretty good. I was kicking myself for accidentally putting wisp in my deck, but wisp + mana crystal + Master Swordsmith turned out to be an epic first turn. Smile

Very intriguing but I wasn't able to make much sense of it.

The only epic GvG I have is Enhance-o Mechano. And I got Foe Reaper 4000 (legendary) a few days ago. Unfortunately it is a slow card, like Gruul. The Mechano looks like it could work in my budget shaman deck.

I'm doing pretty average at arena and as you can see I still technically earn net packs (I also got a common golden card from the 8 win run)... but it still feels so random. Maybe I'm just bad at drafting but I'm kind of tempted to do the same and just go back to buying packs. When the draft is bad it's really not that fun at all :/

Otherwise it's not as bad as I thought, or maybe I'm just really lucky with the gold? last year I was under the impression that Arena was a once-every-three-day thing, due to getting lots of dust. But now I earned on average more than 50 Gold per run. Maybe Blizzard tweaked the rewards since?

On further thought if I sink real money in the game it seems the best value would be to unlock the 3 remaining Naxx wings to get Voidcaller, Deathbite, Kel Thuzard, among other cards.

Climbing again with the aggro Warrior. This win was very satisfying Smile (my deck has no epic, no legendaries). He had 8 HP, didn't taunt. I dropped Spell Breaker on Tirion. Then I had Mortal Strike and Nightblade in hand, but that was only 7. So I kept them in hand, dropped an Annoy-o-Tron to survive one turn, hoping he take me down to 12 so I can do 3 + 6 (instead of 3 + 4). Somehow he didn't heal or taunt that turn, which admittedly is pretty rare.

Lol sucks to be the other guy in that game. Xd

I like to play arena because since I have hardly any cards it puts me on a more even footing and is a good way to learn about other cards, but reward wise it doesn't seem worth it unless you're good enough to win a lot. With the slight difference in efficiency it seems better just to play whichever mode you enjoy most.

It can be hard to follow other people's games since they don't necessarily take the time to read card descriptions that you don't know, but Hearthstone is actually very beginner friendly. There's an in game tutorial and since it's free I recommend you just download it and give it a go.

Have there been any new "F2P" runs by great Hearthstone players since Trump's F2P Shaman, Mage, and Reynad's "Legend Warrior"? I'd like to watch something similar but using GvG cards.
