Screwed up JLPT bubbles...

#1
So I just got my N1 results and found that I got nearly a passing score, and then the detailed breakdown showed 1/60 for reading comp. I'm not going to inflate my sense of understanding, but this is definitely an error -- either on my part or the grading part. Has anyone ever had this experience? I'm guessing the association will not let me appeal, or ask for a grading check... But maybe there's hope? I accept the responsibility of having messed up filling in my sheet by one row or whatever. Just incredibly frustrating to have taken N1 the second time and seeing my old score in reading comp be enough to have counted for a pass this time had I not messed this up epicly. Sigh. So sad and frustrated Sad

Never happened to me, but I think you should try and contact them anyway.
Maybe they won't be able to do anything for you grade, but it's worth trying and knowing what you did wrong, while painful, could help you get it right next time.
And if they're able to do something for your grade, trying gives you more chances that not trying!

I guess you've probably not filled the circles completely, made a silly mistake (like answering Q1 in Q2's answer field and so forth), or had a very bad day Sad

It's unlikely you can get the test remarked:

Quote:The scores I received are different from what I thought I would get. Can I have them confirmed?

Individual examinees' scores are calculated not only mechanically but also strictly checked by specialists. As clearly stated in the Test Guide, we do not accept any inquiries regarding an individual's test results.
The JLPT uses "scaled scores." Scaled scores are calculated based on "answering patterns" of each examinee, not on "the number of questions correctly answered." Therefore, scores in the results may be different from what you thought. Please see the more detailed explanation about scaled scores.

Yep, I figure I'm screwed. Lol... But, it just so happens that I specialize in statistics and data analysis (my life outside of studying Japanese) and can demonstrate that it's more probable (ridiculously so) that I had a good comprehension and correct answers set off by one row rather than, say, less than 50% comprehension (and I wouldn't even need 50% on reading comp to boost my net score beyond a passing mark) is, to say the least, frustrating. Ohhh well. Such is life. Will seek humor in this experience now.

And thanks for the comments guys -- kind of a crummy situation but it's nice to hear some feedback. At the end of the day we should all focus on enjoying the language and supporting each other. Thanks!

Ah, Kodorakun, I feel for you, really I do. I hate hate hate how the JLPT is scored. It's utterly asinine, and does nothing more than artificially limit the number of non-native Japanese speakers who can get their certification.

My honest wish: Someone please come up with a fair, objective Japanese language ability test that is: administered outside of Japan; graded on a sliding scale, and not pass/fail. (Because we're learning a language, not getting a freaking black belt.)

And yeah, scores coming soon. Ah, and today was so nice, too.

Does a test administered over the Internet count (the server is presumably located in Japan)?

J-CAT; koohii thread.
