You know how nouns become verbs? For example, Google is a search engine (noun). But it is also possible to Google something (verb). I would like this forum to burst into Internet popularity by introducing a new verb: IceCream.
IceCream (verb): To delete or edit one's past posts (usually into blank posts) shortly after disappearing from a forum, whether by ban or by abandoning the forum. The disappearance is usually unannounced/unexpected, and usually with unfinished business/lack of closure.
Example sentence: "uisukii was on the verge of completing his 6+ month Japanese Grammar Anki decks but then he suddenly IceCream'd"
By the way, the verb "IceCream" comes from the noun IceCream, a former member of this forum. At one point in time, she disappeared from this forum with no explanation, but not before deleting/editing (changing posts into blank posts) thousands of her past posts. That's how she earned the privilege/worthiness of becoming a verb. Then she came back to this forum. Then she left again, perhaps driven insane by very persistent internet debaters.

Either way, I think we can all agree uisukii gave a lot to this forum. He certainly helped me out alot. Here's hoping he comes back sometime.

It isn't strange that many people grow tired and become less active. The increased amount of hostility doesn't make it more encouraging to stay if you realize the place is a big time sink.

I don't understand leaving posts, it smacks of egoitsm. If you don't want to visit a forum anymore then don't, apart from the admin noone here is really important enough that they need to give an announcement to the forum.
But well, there we go, I don't think this forum is less busy than its been before, its just as active as ever I think. Members come and go and thats life.
Oh, to add, leaving posts is one thing, but also either deleting your account or deleting all your posts is just the stupidest thing ever. If you think your posts had some sort of value when you wrote them, then you are only wasting time to harm the forum for no reason if you feel you have to expunge them from history. Its kind of offensive actually.

Huh. I haven't come across any blank posts by IceCream. Are all her former posts (or posts from before a certain date) blank?
edit: my last memory of her posting is complaining that there is no delete post button. (笑)
PS is there a way to type 笑 without first typing 笑い and then deleting the い?

Saving lots of time. It is a little offensive that some people take other for granted. Why does a person have to leave everything they post? It is their post and they are allowed to do what they want with it, isn't it?
Lots of telling people what to do. Lots of people do that. Is that what is valued here opinion? Reading archive posts is more interesting but now it is like a small number of people with big head telling everyone else what to think. Like they are king or something. What have you given back to everyone?

As you said, they were very useful to you, and now they are unavailable, so that's a net loss to the Japanese language learning community. I'm not saying a person *must* leave behind everything they post, but going backwards through your contributions to "take them back" is a shitty thing to do however you analyse it.
I haven't used any of his/her materials so it doesn't affect me in anyway directly, by the way.

uisukii requested deletion of his/her account, not the posts.
Users can not delete an account by themselves. In any case if you want to move on it's as simple as putting a dummy email and/or turn off the forum messaging thing.
Technically speaking the username becomes "guest". Hopefully conversations should still be straightforward to follow and/or it's the content that matters.
That said deletion of user accounts is up for discussion. If you feel it is detrimental to the forum, let me know (in plain english please >_>) and I will consider it.
This is still a very uncommon thing. It gets noticed here simply because it is the most active (sometimes argumentative) participants who tend to exhaust themselves. Not much I can do about it.

I 'banned' IceCream when asked to remove the account and you can still search for the user's posts. With uisukii I can't even search for his posts (outside of google).

Looks like there are 3 types of non-activated forum accounts:
uisukii is a guest (deleted account?). His profile is unavailable and his posts are unsearchable.
http://forum.koohii.com/profile.php?id=14376
IceCream is a closed account (I assume activatable at a future date). Her profile is available and posts are searchable.
http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=10801 Here, she's asking why deleting posts isn't possible anymore.
http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=7232 And here's the infamous IceCream who IceCream'd the forum thread.
http://forum.koohii.com/profile.php?id=44356
Here's a standard banned account. It seems to function the same as a closed account. (financialwar is either a troll or someone who makes sincere posts but lacks any form of civility whatsoever leading to his ban after riling up multiple people)
By the way, did nest0r (which this forum thinks of highly) do an IceCream? He was before my time so I didn't get to know him.
While we're on the topic of disappearances, which forum member's whereabouts are you wondering about right now? You know, that guy/girl whose posts you always look forward to reading (or don't), but now that you think about it, you haven't seen his/her name in a while.

Can you please stop digging up old stuff, this is a thread about uisukii's account.

I completely overlooked the search feature. I'm the only one who can fully delete an accout (the profile) so I won't delete accounts anymore, problem solved.
If that helps, you may find old threads in which uisukii participated with Google like so:
site:forum.koohii.com uisukii <your search terms>

I'm not surprised at all. When other members have been critical of uisukii's ideas in the discussion threads, uisukii has threatened on multiple occasions to remove the spreadsheets links. It's generally not a good idea to expect any stability from someone who is willing to resort to blackmail.

raharney Wrote:I have to say nightsky, I find you weirdly, obsessionally, neurotically judgmental about other people's styles of posting.Well, yeah. I can't see your face, I can't hear your voice, all I can judge a person on is what they write. Style is important because you should use language which is comprehensible and clear to the audience you are speaking to. Forum posts and PHD thesis's should be written in a different style, for example.
If you decide that writing in a particular fashion is more important to you than actually communicating your ideas, then I think its reasonable to be criticised for that kind of egotism.
Anyway in this case that isn't really here or there. Going back in time and deleting your posts and other resources isn't in anyway a 'style', its simply doing the wrong thing.
