Core 2k/6k/10k - Which one?

#1
Hey guys.

I'm sorry if this is the 127831273th topic on the subject, but there's so much content / links that became obsolete with Anki 2 that I just don't know where to look anymore. I need help with the following questions:

1) I want to study Core 2k/6k/10k on Anki, with images if possible. Sound is a plus, but not really necessary.

After doing some research for a couple hours, I came across at least 10 different decks for what I assume is the same thing, but with a wild variation in the number of cards for each of the decks. Which deck can I trust / should I download? Names and/or links are very much appreciated =).

2) How far would a deck like this take me? I'm currently somewhere between JLPT N2 and N1. My goal is to eventually become really fluent in the language, but for now I'd be very happy if I could tackle N1. Are the Core decks the right pick?

Thank you very much in advance, and I apologize again if these questions have been asked countless times before, but I really couldn't find the answers anywhere =/.

You're well above the point where you would need one.

If you do core, use the one discussed in this thread, http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=11095&page=1

As mentioned, you're really beyond the level for needing core. If you do it, make sure to simply suspend cards for words that you know well, and be quick to hit 'very easy' for words that you know a little bit. If you don't knock the ones you already know out of the way, you'll spend all your time reviewing words that don't need reviewing.

At your level, you probably already know half the words in the deck, maybe more, it depends on the exact vocabulary you've picked up.

The deck wouldn't really get a beginner past your level in general, but it will fill the holes in your vocabulary for commonly tested words, if passing tests is your near-term goal.

(Personally, I write my own cards. I don't have the patience to knock out cards that I already know from prebuilt decks. That may not be entirely rational, it does take a couple minutes to create a card and a couple seconds to suspend one. Probably a fraction of a second if one bothered to memorize the keyboard shortcut for suspend card.)

Thank you for the replies, guys!

@ryuudou: I'm not sure I'm at such a level where I don't need Core decks anymore - since I didn't use much SRS when learning what I know now, my retention is pretty bad and I guess some reviewing would come in handy (especially of N2 content). I bet there are some huge gaps I need to work on way before I can think of taking N1.

@SomeCallMeChris: thank you very much for the link! As for building your own deck, I totally get you - I myself built some huge decks before (using KanjiDamage jukugo). Having a custom made deck for your needs is awesome. However, with Anki 2 not letting you open multiple instances of the software anymore + the fact that I've been working infinite hours IRL every single day, I don't see myself building a deck again anytime soon =/. That's why I'm after Core 2k/6k/10k.

But now that you've mentioned the possibility of Core not getting me where I want, do you have any recommendations of N2 and N1 decks with images? I don't really need to use Core, I just want to completely dominate N2 / N1's content.

Thank you!
