Free JP lessons and a learning community in Minecraft

#1
Hi! I hope it is ok to post stuff like this.

I was fairly active on these forums a loooooooooooooong time ago. In fact, I made this post! To be fair, I can attribute three things to my Japanese proficiency today:

1. Anki
2. This forum
3. Living in Japan (<-- by far the biggest factor but meh...)

I have since moved onto other things, one of which is teaching Japanese. I'm still an active learner and am now passing on that knowledge to others. Where? In Minecraft of course..! w (not "of course" at all, right?) So, to cut to the chase, I am giving basic lessons once a week on a Minecraft server. We have also started to do a "Let's Play" series for students to practice what they have been learning in class.
Sample lesson.
Sample "Let's Play" video

Server address (for lessons): kotobaminers.org
Website: http://www.kotobaminers.org/
Subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/MinecraftAcademy/

Server address (for the "Let's Play"): rpg.kotobaminers.org
この活動は専用サーバーで行われます。
注意:毎週の土曜日だけに開かれますので、普段は上記のkotobaminers.orgの方で遊べます。

I probably won't join in, but I'm very interested in watching these Let's Play videos Smile Thank you for posting about it!

I also had the idea a few weeks ago to try and use Minecraft to practice speaking; it seems like it would provide a lot more context and interaction opportunities than a basic audio/webcam chat (and also probably take some of the awkwardness away).

Thanks for the comment. Can I ask what would hold you back from joining?

I love minecraft. I might join the server if I get some spare time between exam preparations. Smile

Thanks for sharing Yorkii. When I watched the young ones playing their Minecraft the first thing I thought of was, ohh this kind of thing has a lot of learning potential (for Japanese or..).
...oh, and you started [i]that[i/] thread! Big Grin

This sounds pretty interesting to me. I am in need of a lot more active practice.

That said, my skills are exceedingly poor and my confidence is even lower! I would quite like to join if that could be tolerated Smile At what times do you hold the lessons / Let's Plays?

Of course! If you check the video series (I'm going to be redoing the first few because they are far too long), you'll notice that we take complete beginners. I'll be restarting the basic Japanese classes in January, but feel free to come over and play whenever you want. Smile

Oh, I'm just a shy person (in any language), that's all. ^^
